What width drop axle should I be using on a full fendered 29 A with Buick brakes and steel rims to get the best fit, 46" or 48"? Does anybody have any pictures from the front of their car with the different widths of axle?

    Thanks

I think you are going to need the 46 incher. Any reputable dealer could probably verify this though.

  3. i think 46" would bee too narrow with the wheels/brakes you want to use. steel rims don't have as much offset as aluminim rims and the ford brakes are narrower than disk brakes. my full fenered `28 has a 47-3/4" superbell, f-100 brakes and 15" X 4.5" rims with 2-1/8" backspace and 3-3/8" frontside., i think they fit perfect.. a typical ford steel rim 15" X 5" has about 3-1/4" backspace and a 2-3/4" frontside....with a 46" axle, early drum brakes..it would be too narrow

i thionk in the end you would be glad that you get the 46 inch wide axle, im putting that one in my 34 (wider than an A) because my tires were to close to the fenders and when i turn theyd rub, i have 37-41 spindles and 40 juice brakes and a reversed eye spring.
better that it be a little narrower than to wide! an inch on each side would be very unnoticable between pics of both.
