History Front Bumper Mounted Fuel Tanks

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Richard D, Dec 22, 2010.

  1. I know they are all the rage with the "G***ers" built now, but I have seen a few old photos with them, and I had an old Willys model car my uncle built in the 60s with one. Were they used very often, and were they strip legal?
Were there only Moon and Eelco, or were there any more generic looking models availible? Would this look too modern?

Here's one of mine from the '50's before Moon used it's famous mooneye logo.
Moon and Eelco were far and away what was used but a few guys fabricated their own.
They were legal on the strips although NHRA outlawed the spring retainers that used to hold some of the tanks to the brackets
The tank you show could not be used to reference that early period mostly due to the welds and the billit cap.

  3. That's what I figured, I'll just have to spring for the real thing.
