front crossmember

After removing the threaded shafts from the top arm of the 49 chevy they were worn down so bad i had to replace them.I bought some new shafts from chevs of the 40.s tried to fit them but i just cannot get the thread started.Iknow they are meant to be tight but it ain,t happening.Do i need new bushes any idea anybody
