Please help. I have done all that I can think of to fix this problem, re bushed the spindles, new kingpins, new shoes, turned all the drums, rebuilt the wheel cylinders and replaced tie rod ends as well as the drag link bar ends. Car stops on a dime now and runs straight but I still have a nasty shudder when breaking. It seems to be coming from the driver front side. I hope there is someone out there that can help!

KS, if it only shudders under braking I would think it has to be either shoes or drum on that wheel. Have you tried swapping drums and /or shoes. Shocks good too? A dead shock may also cause some wheel hop. Do you have access to a dial indicator? I'd check check the i.d. runout of that drum also.

Duece G: I have swaped drums and the shoes are brand new. Its reacting the same with the old and the new shoes and with the drum swap. I have the stock shocks which are the bog bone type, they are rusty but apear to work. I dont have a dial indicator but will ask around.

Duece D: The alignment I did myself and have it set to 1/8 toe in. However I dont have any fancy equipment, I used the center tire tread as a gauge.

    Kris,
How well do the shoes fit the drums? Do the shoes want to rock heel to toe inside the drum? Is the shudder more like the shoes grab the drum- slip and grab again?
Jack the wheel in question and give it a turn while someone applies the brake - check to see if it's grabbing and if any noise at the drum?
    Good luck- Rich

    Rich,

Yeah its a very grab and slip type thing. Today I noticed there is a little play in the brake shoe cam and it looks to be worn. Can this be the culprit of all my ills?
