well just bought some billet spacers to lower the front of my 55 ford. Does anyone have any tips or any good knowledge to installing them. im pretty confident they should go on no problem. im just looking to see if there is anything i should keep in mind while installin them baggs
BILLETT??????? What's wrong with square tubing or solid bar for that matter? Did you get instructions with them?
yeah i know billet.......but i dont have the resources to just grab some steel and make them...i dont have a shop with s****s layin around ya know. i live in a townhome so leaves me no room to work or store anything for that matter. Yes they came with instructions...im just putting it out there that if there is anything that i should look out for, or if anyone has had any issues with this install thats all baggs

Spacers would stiffen the spring and keep it from compressing, no? Not actually lower the vehicle. Never heard of lowering blocks for the front.
Those lower the car by dropping the spring pocket on the lower control arm. The only thing to watch out for is alignment and ball joint bind now that the arms will travel higher in the car relative to the frame.
Yeah, I put a similar kit in my '53 Customline a million years ago. Just follow the directions, it's easy... the hardest part is getting the bottom plate to separate from the lower A-arm after you drill out the hot-rivets. I had to use an air-chisel... very gingerly. It lowered the front a couple of inches and the ride was fine. good luck -ns
Interesting, I was looking at the stock independent front end on Dad's '34 Plymouth coupe the other day and wandered if I couldn't space down the spring pockets to get the nose down a little.
The add that Flyn-T posted has the instructions you need. It sounds simple enough but I'm glad I don't have my fingers, hands and face around that project. It would probably be best to use some really solid ramps to get the tires up on. I wouldn't trust my old stamped steel ramps for that project though. If you don't take the spring out you are going to have to work around the jack to get the rivits out an maybe drill the holes in the control arm to fit the bolts.
I used a 3" cutt off wheel to cut off the rivets but ended up going this route instead: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=260795&highlight=merc+springs Sorry I'm not a big fan of putting bolts upside down.
I know its old school....i just dont like the idea of cutting coils. i figured this was the biggest bang for my buck with out doin a full front suspension swap baggs
Billet or just T 60-61 aluminum. Don't call 'em billet and no one will ever know. Install them according to the instructions, check everything twice then have a buddy come and give it the once over. You'll be alright.
