Starting on the front end rebuild. Any tips on how to and where to start? There are rebuild kits and brake conversion kits and rackpinion kits. Where are the best ones for the best prices and what all will I need to make this the best daily driver? Thanks, 57Cobra Houston, TX
First thing is get this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1957-FORD-Car-Shop-Service-Manual-Repair-Book-CD-/140743084770?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A1957|Make%3AFord&hash=item20c4f10ae2&vxp=mtr The word seems to be out that the rack and pinion kits have a down side in 50's Fords and that is a much larger turning radius, the 1954 and later Ford IFS suspensions are EZ to upgrade Some of the best prices on the brake upgrade are here:Oldirishmans Auto Parts 1(575) 494-5119 for a power brake and dual master conversion around $225 ask about the disc brake conversions when you phone them as there are some options.Click on this for a wealth of information the members have put together:http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?do=discuss&group=&discussionid=18186
my 53 with frame stub and mII suspension rides nicely. jeff is correct tho in stating decreased turning radius. i have a turning raduis just slightly less than the queen mary. maybe a bit of an exageration, but not much.
