Anyone with a '52-'54 with the Aerostar springs had any issues with a squeak coming from the front end? My '52 has recently developed one. At first, I thought it just might need a good dose of grease. So, I crawled under, and greased her up good. I took her out today, and the squeak remains. Sounds like its comin from the right front. Any thoughts?
I got a small mouse in the front end, but I think thats normal for old cars, didnt have the car befor the spring was put in....Roach.
I would check the Upper and Lower A-Arm bushings Thats where Ive seen it squeak before on other cars where the metal rod goes through the rubber bushings. Try spraying some WD-40 in there and see if that stops it I would do just the top check it then do the bottom that way you could see which ones it actually is. Also the stabilizer bar connections.
For use on rubber it would be better to use Silicone Spray than WD-40, but use that WD-40 monthly on the hood hinges.
When you installed the springs did you replace the rubber pads that the top side of the spring sits on? They fit in the upper spring pocket.
one thing you need to do that i dont think anyone ever mentioned . is too loosen all the control arm bushing nuts and let the bushings set them selves to the new position. this is true when ever doing any front end work where the bushings will wind up twisted and cause them to wear out prematurely.
Thanks for all the input everyone. First off, I bought the car with all the front end work already done, so unfortunately, I'm unable to answer most of the questions. Roach, this is no small mouse. Its making a noise like a monkey violating a squirrel under there! lol. Seriously its a pretty loud mouse if it is one. I do use the WD-40 on my hood hinges monthly! Second, as far as the squeaking is concerned, I've been driving it around for the past few days and it has since stopped. Not sure if maybe something didn't get lodged up in the spring mount that just had to work out or what (gotta love all the **** on these lovely Wyoming roads). I will be continually monitoring it, and if it starts again, I will be pulling the front end apart and redoing it, to include new springs, shocks, bushings, grease fittings, etc. Thanks again for all the help guys!
