I have been looking at this and scratching my head trying to figure out what it is. The bones are conected to a split tube that wraps around the tube axle and then the split tubes bolt together (holding the axle). Thats it. What is this called?

I will try to get a few better pictures tonight, this is all I have right now.

  4. Yea bad picture, now my eyes hurt
I'm going to reserve the right to change my mind but it looks like another variation of a suicide suspension. Ubolts in a shear condition , Probably your garden variety rat

  6. That's a bad idea, that's what to call it.
Definitely a version of a suicide front end.
you're correct it s not ubolts, its a clamp.
Here's the main problem, see that little bolt in the center of the clamp heading toward the tube axle, that and friction from the clamp are what's controlling the torsional rotation of the axle.

Next problem is the spring length in relationship to the spring perch( more on that LATER) the shackels are going the wrong way. As the spring flexes the shackels pull on the wishbones becoming parallel with the axle. That is opposite of the way that system was designed to work. The shackles should go perpendicular to the axle ad the spring flexes.

Not totally useless, makes a great bad example. Garden variety rat

    Rodent engineering at it's finest!!

  8. it is the equivalent of a batwing or the section on a front wishbone that attached to the axle, obviously this is backyard brewed. Some had to keep the tube axle instead of getting an I-beam and not ruin the wishbones.
I imagine this has some sort of set screw to prevent then from sliding on the axle.

I bet its fun to drive and stop with the axle leaned foward instead of back.

tractor grill, shitty engineering, crappy welds,, yep one of them off topic things,, and its a great bad example!
