I am glad I did it when it was cheap and fun. The cars that run today are very fast but are so removed from the 60's, especially in appearance !

In 1971 at the Winternationals is when Garlits won with his RED, the rest of the field were FED's and Pete Robinson was killed in his.

I don't believe they were banned, they were just made obsolete by the rear engine revolution as the performance and safety of the rear engine dragster out paced the FED.

 

Throwing my car on the pile. I've been building it to look as close to 1964/65 as possible while being NHRA legal. Has involved a lot of thought to hide all the required stuff.

 

Very clean car, what transmission ?

I would love to run a clutch, but just can't afford it and the endless NHRA recerts that go along with it, so it's a shorty powerglide that will be run high gear only because I don't want to put a wheelie bar on it. I have a caster wheel just to protect the frame in the event of yanking the front wheels, but a wheelie bar becomes part of the launch strategy. I built this to be a hot rod (something that exists to feed the soul) rather than a serious race car so I can live with the lazy 60 foot times.

Hopefully we can run against each other at Woodburn next year.
