Anyone have plans for building a front motored dragster? I want to build a legal sfi chassis for running events in the 7.5 sec. nostalgia eliminator class. Thanks guys
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=230419 around page four Roo Man was kind enough to post some cad files of his designs. and plenty of other info from our wonderful hamb community, too. please post pics of your build now. -90% Jimmy
I don't have plans, but I do have the SFI specs on a 7.50 and slower FED. I could probably copy them and send em to yah if interested.
Awsome info. Thank you, it will be very helpful. As much as I like the old style dragsters I want to build one that is legal to drive at a sanctioned track. What I want to build is a a car like Frank Pendregon used to drive in the 60's, a rail with a coupe body on it.
Have a look at "DRAGSTER FRAME PICTURES" has lots of cool stuff!! (on the HAMB) a few pages on Good luck!! DAN
Thanks for the Dave Tuttle link, Alteredpilot! Second generation dragster builder and he does offer an extensive range of build possibilities! Good dude, also! -90% Jimmy
Mark Williams sells a print of a chassis that works. It was pretty reasonable about 8 yrs ago, $50, give or take a few bucks? The design was good for any speed/engine combination. You may also want to contact The Chassis Shop in Mears, MI. They sell the roll cage hoops and seatback hoops, pre-made to fit any driver, legal for all sanctioned tracks, and not much more than the cost of tubing. Beyond those most everything is straight stuff. I priced those sections and for less than $500 The whole ass-end of the car would be legal and safe.
Mark Williams sells not only the plans but also has a kit as does S & W Chassis in Pennsylvania. If anyone is interested I could probably do a kit based on the CAD drawing that I posted. SFI spec 2-4 is adequate for slightly slower cars but it is not much more difficult to build the car to SFI 2-2 which will make it legal for any e.t. Roo
Just a reminder, it is very possible to build a legal front engine dragster, and make it look very nostalgic and original. You can lay back the cage, use one continuous radius instead of it looking square, try to sit as low as possible in it, use a straight axle, etc.
Absolutely! I'm sick of the modern Nostalgia top fuelers, they are ruining what they were intended for. The car you posted is definitely a much closer resemblence of the cars of the past.
I built that car about 7 years ago for Mark Vaught. It is a Tuttle frame design that ran a best of 7.20 at 190 with the blown small block. It is now in New England and is getting a hemi motor. This is the car that replaced it. A little taller in the back but still retro with the round top cage and soft contour body. Roo
I just bought a set of blueprints and cage pieces from Mark Williams. Good stuff! Very self-explanitory and his catalog has pretty much everything to put together a legal f.e.d. frame.
