I am working on a 1941 ford coupe, front spring bottom leaf was replaced. old spring shackles are too short to install bottom leaf, the spring binds against the shackle, because of the arch of new spring leaf. the measurement on old shackle is 1.5 inches. I was going to make new shackles .5 inches longer for a distance of 2 inches, this should work, any reason it won't. thanks for any replies, John

New shackels will fit, making long one is not good. The spring just needs to be flexed out/they make a tool to do it,but it can be done by jack, being very carefull is a must.

  3. are you the one that replaced the broken leaf?? if so,the new leaf needs to be connected with the shackles before new leaf is combined with the rest,,you will need a long all thread and some C clamps to assem the rest of the leaves
