Just got a set of dropped uprights for my belair, got the spindles installed and am now at the point of installing the springs. What's the best way to compress the front springs on the old Chevys, I looked in the manual and the way the show how to do it just looks really scetchy to me. Any tricks or advice would be much appreciated! Cheers, Mark
Jack under the end of the lower control arm. Let the weigh of the vehicle do the work for you. Just be careful as there is a lot of energy in a compressed spring. Works best with the engine in for weight.
As above, or a threaded rod and plate through the vacated shock absorber hole, to pull the spring up into the pocket compressing it. Only the LOWER arm works against the spring, not both, like most cars. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
