So I'm in the planning stages of a home built "T" modified, and about a year ago there was an I.D. thread asking about the front suspension of a vw rod. The conclusion was it came off an Opel/ Fiat and then the thread must have been declared OT and killed. I'd like more information because I think it will complement the Triumph Spitfire based rear I want to use and I don't know where to start a search. In the old thread someone mentioned a H.A.M.B.er with a similar front end. The suspension was an its that uses the transverse leaf spring as the upper or lower control arms, don't remember exactly which.
Opel's did have the transverse leaf mounted in the lower control arms. Worked well enough but obsolete and probably a bit hard to come by these days. Oh, and to add to that, the Chevette was GM US cousin to the Opel line and the basis of the Fiero. So if you are so inclined, check these out LINK You might have a better shot of completing your project.
Obsolete I know but that's what makes it neat. I really want to use pieces of this spitfire rear and more modern ifs wouldn't jive. And I hate the idea of IRS and a solid front axle.
But a "T" Modified with an Opel IFS would be bucket of armpits ugly. Any IFS for that matter. Plenty of options for you out there.
I've seen several pics of 1950's Ford rods with Studebaker "Planar" suspension. Pretty clear pictures here: http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.com/showthread.php?8990-Pre-50-planar-suspension-question
this is an opel gt narrowed 6" to 48 " wheel flange to flange, stock was 54". I used one in my 48 Anglia and loved it. This one is for a Renault LSR car. spring is missing. yet to be cut
Rootie: Thanks for the pic of Smokey's "sidecar" Indy car! Bobby Johns drove it if I remember correctly. Can't recall if it qualified or not. Regards, Dave.
Steve, you have such a poetic way with words And of course you are right, it will look like Ass Sweat
