Technical Front Tires

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by alphabet soup, Apr 6, 2023.

  1. Question for you guys racing your cars...what are you using for a safe, tall front tire that looks the part? I have been looking at some of the newer front runners and most have an ugly tread pattern. Gene.

Bias blackwalls. How tall is up to you.

    On a bunch of cars I have used a 6.00-15 or a 6.50-16.

  3. Ok, I'm looking for a 15", 27" to 28" tall. Gene.

    That's going to be a 225 75 15 or 7.50 15.

I like the Moroso front runners.

  7. I have been leaning that way. But, I was wondering what other opinions were out there. Thanks everyone. Gene.

last ones I got were Coker repops of the ProTrac front runner. They're ok...but not what I really wanted. They have a really thick sidewall on one side, which I don't understand.

The thick sidewall goes to the outside so you can successfully scuff curbs, etc.

  12. I like this, will have to check.

  13. 20230122_111020.jpg I've run the bf goodrich tires from coker for years on 9, 10, and 11 second street cars without issue, I spoke with Coker about speed ratings at dragstrip speeds, they said no problem for short 1/4 mile blasts, my best mph on them is 141. I like the silvertown blackwall 27" tall

We used Moroso front runners on our street driven drag cars 7.50x15. 27 1/2” tall if I remember right.

  15. Only things about the moroso tires are they are 2 ply sidewalls and not DOT approved

That is true! But we never popped one or damaged an aluminum wheel on our pothole choked streets. Just my experience is all.

  20. You are most correct, I did ask about race tires... I do like to hear opinions on both though, the car does see SOME street miles. Gene.

Probably want to look at D.O.T. tires then.

  22. You are correct again...I didn't start out looking for dot tires. But some of the tires shown, do have my interest. Gene.
