Ok here is the deal... I have bought a buncha frontend parts and am trying to figure out what I need to finish it up. Here are a couple shots of what I have.. can you help me with the rest? I have never done the frontend thing yet so sorry if this is stupid to you. Just trying to learn here. I need a part that goes in location #1 to that makes a conection for the hairpins #2...
yeaa that is what they are... thanks... any other things that I need? Would you use hairpins like this or split bones? What are the pros and cons of using both?
[ QUOTE ] Would you use hairpins like this or split bones? [/ QUOTE ] Use what you got. Or what you like, which ever comes first. [ QUOTE ] Batwings... [/ QUOTE ] Also consider the lower shock mount.Usually bolts on the bottom.

Keep in mind that to adjust the caster of the axle, with wishbones you will have to cut the 'Bones and re-weld. Or lower the tie rod end as the axle flops back the 5 to seven deg. Then you would lose the look of a level 'bone from the side. With the hair pin, it's just an adjustment of the clevis ends. The 'bone look killer, but be ready to do the do !
The bones are cool. Like is said, be ready for some extra work to get the right caster. And once it's set, no easy changes without cutting and welding. Fwiw - here's a pic of a batwing for poly ended hairpin bushings. The batwing you require has a flat plate that goes inside the clevis pins and is a little better looking than the poly batwings, but I chose to make my own poly bushing ends so that's the way I went. The hairpin has an adjustment at all three corners - goes far to make life easy in the caster dept. The first caster setting may not be the one you want. Not to mention a change in tire height may require a caster change. Use the hairpins and once you're up and running, make a decision about the bones. You can always install your bones later.
Here's a pic of the type batwings you need for your clevis end type hairpins. You can get them from Speedway Motors - a good outfit to deal with. Speedway Clevis Page
I'll add one other thought here. The steering arms on your spindles may need to be heated and bent so the cross steer will clear the bones, but usually fits right between the hairpin arms without modification.
