Anyone have experience beefing up frame when removing top from 2-dr hdtp? 1956 Desoto in this instance. Everyone affirm the need for the frame mod?

You may need to stiffen the frame but you definitely need to stiffen the body. 2 door hdtop may use the same frame as a convertible, not sure.

The main place you need to reinforce, is the rocker panel or sill area. They had stiffening inside the sills, but you can add it outside. 1 1/2" or 2" square tubing inboard of the rockers or, round tubing inside the rockers.

The dashboard/firewall area needs to be braced to prevent cowl shake. Also to support the weight of the doors hanging off the hinges.

Add some stiffness before you take the top off.

If it is a parade car it will not see much use and then, at low speeds on paved roads. So you should not have any problems.
