I didn't mean you were starting any- but you know some drama will be on the horizon because people love your event and without you it just won't be the same. Guys will make noise about "the old days" but hopefully (and most likely) it will go on with great success because you set it up right from the begining. I know "smileys" never read well- I had a feeling you might not get what I was saying- sorry, it wasn't a negative.

  2. i thought hard about this overnight and Rolf from the s****s is the only nor-cal guy with the experiance and p***ion that could replace KIRK properly as one person in charge... it would have to be a group or partners otherwise...

Rolf is at the top of my list of guys I personally know. He is very dedicated and talented in both running events and building hot rods.

    Good luck Kirk,

Made us very welcome when we came over from the UK a few years back for your show! Everything about the experience was cool.

    Enjoy your rest!!

Not that I know a damn thing about investing, but,

I think most investors would be more interested in the Net Income, along with the Gross expense necessary to obtain it.

I won't mention this fact to the couple of local clubs that have been handing out these "types" of trophys at their local shows for over 20 years now. ;)

Boomer has the backing of a couple of local car clubs and I believe that type of manpower is still needed to be sucessful. It really has to go to a car guy(guys) with "backing", both finanical and warm local bodies, to help out.

Whatever is decided, I wish you the best of luck and will keep my fingers crossed that 2006 isn't the last Billetproof Detroit.

Really? Wow. The original ones at Billetproof came completely from my head, and most shows have told me that they were inspired by the ones from Billetproof.

It just goes to show you that there are no original ideas. It's all been done.:)

    Thanks for the support Denise!

I don't see how you've been doing it as long as you have, considering the demands of your day job + trying to be a hot rodder. Certainly don't blame you. From simply helping out vendor friends that were set up as vendors at large events, I know you don't get to really enjoy the cars and people there. I can't imagine what it's like to actually RUN the event.

Good luck to you... I hope you come out good on this, and get to enjoy being "just" a participant for once. Although I've never had the pleasure of being at a BP event (whatever happend to that BP TX rumor?), I also hope it goes to someone who does, in fact, "get it".

I'll never forget meeting KIRK! and Jay at a friends party in Oakland 10 years ago. We sat around like old friends and taked about hot rods, customs and harley's and they told me about a new car show they had started called "Billetproof". My life has never been the same, what an honor it has been to be involved with the show for all these years.

Maybe most investors - but not all.

Interestingly, the folks who have a burning desire to 'make it happen' are usually the ones who succeed - and the bottom line isn't the top priority.

Hopefully that's true. It was run as a "car show on the side" for 6-7 years, because that's what it was. It's only been the last 2-3 that we've kept real records for taxes and junk. Billetproof is run out of the shed in my backyard. But many successful businesses started that way too.

It's all about the cars....the want....the desire to have everything that is BILLETPROOF. If I had the financial means, the time and the overall know-how, I'd be the man to get it! I hope someone who IS hotrods obtains the BILLETPROOF en***y and keeps it like it has been and still is.

This idea merits some consideration. It's obvious Goodguys recognizes the subculture with their "Suede & Chrome" brand they've developed. They already have the facilities to plan and execute shows. If Billetproof is a profitable operation, it seems like it would be a no brainer for them.

Kirk, as a father, I respect your decision in regards to your family. That shows that your heart is in the right place. I vote that you just put Billetproof in a box for now and bring it back up when the time's right. I'll admit that it'd be weird for me to go to the show and not see you riding around on your cruiser making sure everything's just so. If you do p*** the torch, I hope that the right person will step up and bring to the show the same relaxed, good vibe that it has been since I've known it. Who says you have to sell it? Franchise it so that you can have some say so in the direction the show goes to make sure it retains it's soul. just an idea, but I don't know squat about business. lol

Kirk, for anyone who may be interested, what exactly would you be selling?
    Name?
    Trademark?
    Business en***y?
    ***ets?
    Liabilities?
    Existing leases?
    Bonds?
    Location Leases?
Is the business registered in CA, or MI.?
    Are records available?
All valid questions for any purchaser.

Is this a business that you are running for profit, or just to keep traditional rodding alive.
I think that this would be a business that should be turning the corner after these startup years and anyone would ask why you are leaving at this point, and if it is family concerns that is enough said. I wish you good luck and it sounds like you have many backers and references here on the HAMB for the quality of your endeavors so far..

    Selling:

Name, trademarks (yes I have them), ***ets (garments, stickers, posters, patches, show supplies etc.), All rights.

    Registered in California.

    Yes, records are available.

There are no outstanding debts, leases or anything owed.

It is a business that turns a profit. It has just become too large for me to deal with.

  28. Very disappointing news. I respect your descision Kirk and wish you good luck. I hope that Billetproof Michigan can continue in the same way as it has been progressing for the past two years. It Rocks. Goodguys will not do it justice. Detroit Clubs.....Rise Up!!!!!!!!!!!!!
