Probably just needs a set of rings and a freshen up!

    just kiddin' of course...

ever see one this bad.....sheesh! I honestly think that there isn't a SINGLE part worth saving.....maybe the crank pulley

I was at a cruise-in and a fellow said, "I've got an old flatty laying at the house you can have. I pulled it out of a [something] in the 50's to put in an SBC." I replied like a young pup, "Yeah, I'll take it!!!"

Well, here she is, in all her glory......

He's a really nice fella and I didn't have the heart to tell him I didn't want it....

I'VE GOT TO QUIT DRAGGING THIS **** HOME! My garage is filling up...

A '32 parts guy at Hershey last week had on display a completely rusted out oil pan, hardly more than a flange, next to a pressure plate that was 1/3 GONE, both plate and cover. I think that became my new rust standard...made your new project look good.

Well, the oil filter canister looks useable yet. I'm glad someone who knows enough to know it's junk got it, I'd hate to know it went to the s****per without ever being checked out, or worse, got sold to someone else with intentions of saving it.

Yes--that was my second thought too...remember to put lots of words like "ratrod" and "deuce" into the key word line, and the "running when removed" is VERY important. There are lots of people who are optimists out there, and feeding their sense of hope is an important service. I have a Stromberg 97 that's in really good shape except that the castings are broken and all the little parts are missing--we could put that on top and DOUBLE the value easily!

I can tell from the picture that the number 5 intake valve might be stuck. Plus, I suspect that the middle main bearing is 5 thous under spec. Aside from that, I think you found a gem! A little squirt of PB Blaster here and there; a couple quarts of Marvel Mystery Oil down the throat; and a couple raps with a BFH should do the trick! Be sure to let us all know when you have it running....... :)

You may be misunderstanding which is the valuable part here...grind it to dust, mix with clearcoat, and market it as PURE PATINA!
I say RATROD BRAND (tm) authentic fifties patina should be worth at least $20 for a small spray can!
You'll blow House of Color right off the market...they're still pushing that shiny look...so twenty minutes ago!

man, you guys are killing me!!! :D I had hoped everyone needed a good laugh.....

how much boring do you think it would take to clean up the walls?

actually, the block could possibly be saved, excluding any freeze crack, resurfacing every surface, all new....never mind......

I just did one the other (few) day that was almost that bad. It was looking like the block was going to be a good one until I busted the **** out of one of the lifted bores. Pissed me off, the best part of three days work shot to ****.
Funny, my guy also said it ran when he pulled it.

Honesty is paramount in selling...how about "Was NOS once..." or maybe "Ran when last installed"...

I sold one on ebay a while back that was probably worse than that one.

I listed it with clear pics, and described it honestly. I basically said it was trash and if it didn't sell, I was going to bury it. I said it was stuck with holes busted in the cylinders. A wasted piece.... Starting bid....50¢

****er got up to $5 and some change....a guy from indiana came down and loaded it up. Even gave me a $5 tip.

    Moral of the story:
Put it on ebay, you migh get $10 out of it, and you won't have to haul it away. :D

    :):):)

see, ebay isn't all that bad....:rolleyese:

sad part is, it has (did have) adjustable tappets in it...which could mean cam......I may tear it down that far....

I really don't want to torch the rods because I wanted to steal Vern Tardell's idea and make sling shots out of them.....good gifts...

I may just torch the crank...

Let's see, $10 in gas for going to get it. $2 in gas to unload it with the tractor. Wear and tear on tools, truck, tractor. MY TIME.....I'd say I'll be about $40 in the hole...........getting to learn and butcher an old block for a learning experience, and helping the HAMB have a laugh, priceless!!!
