I am adding a fuel door to my fender, and i have the door at the position it will be, and the hole cut for the door ***embly, what I have now is an issue getting the flange on the tank to meet the flange on the filler because it is at such a funny angle. The door is not finished welded and I'm thinking I should wait unitl it is in and done, before I spent too much time trying to fit what I have now, as I have a club member welding it and finishing it off with paint. Does this sound right? my concern is that If I get the pattern down now, and he has to move it some what I get now may not fit right. Also what do you guys use when fitting funny angles? I have some flexible fuel line, but the angle is too sharp and it will not bend without kinking. It is 2 inches id. Would I need to make a pattern and see if I can fine a match at the parts store, or ?? Thanks.
I use copper tubing, 45's and 90's to make fuel filler necks. Easy, all the stuff is at Home Depot, and it polishes nice if you like shiney stuff. Fit, sweat the fittings, rubber fuel filler hose for the connecters. Done. Brian
don't use radiator hose , it is not made for gas. Gates has fuel proof hose in 45 and 90 degree bends , and you can use some short pieces of 2" tubing to connect them if needed. any good auto parts store should be able to get them...i just ordered some yesterday
Use exhaust pipe of the same diameter...have it bent to the curve you need, connect with fuel hose, top and bottom... R-
White PVC plumbing pipe and glue on fittings works well for gas. it is not affected by it even the ethanol containg stuff. And the Fernco hoses/couplers from a plumbing supply also hold up to gas and come in various sizes, angles and reducers. The main thing to consider when installing your filler neck to tank tubing is that it runs downhill to the tank. This may seem obvious, but most tanks that don't fill well have the problem in an uphill or even level section of filler tube..
Thanks guys gives me somethings to think about. I'll get it mounted in the fender and see what method i choose to hook it up from the filler to the tank.
Don't forget to put a vent in the line, other wise it will spit gas back at you when you go to fill it.
