when i bought my car ['67 plymouth fury II . 318 c.i.d.] about 3 years ago the previous owner warned me that the fuel gauge doesnt work during the winter time. i bought the car in northern nevada and live in arizona, so i didnt think i would have a problem with the gauge in the valley of the sun, but sure as***** when october came around the gauge stopped working until about june. any ideas why the gauge doesnt work in the colder months [if you call october in arizona cold]. i havent started investigating the problem yet, looking to see where i should start. anybody else had this problem before? .fLeEtwOOd.
Always start by looking for a ground problem. Remember that electrical systems are the work of the devil. A bad ground could be effected by just about anything from humidity to your degree of desperation to get somewhere on time. Drive it though a car wash, see if a wet car makes a difference. Before you guys even start about that simple test, get off my back, its a cheap test and worth a try. If the gauge starts working after a car wash, definitely look for a ground problem.
