Since I am running dual exhaust, there is about 18 inches of metal fuel line running close to the exhaust which may be contributing to the occasional vapor lock hiccup that happens after being stuck at a long red light. Would a rubber fuel hose slipped over the metal line serve as a decent heat shield?
It may help, but there is really nothing deflecting the heat, just something insulating the line. If there were no room for a small tin shield to be made and mounted with a little room between the line and shield, id get some heat reflectant tape and wrap the line with that, or use the hose and wrap the hose in it which may offer more protection and a sort of insulator. The tape im thinking of has been used for years by auto manufacturers around electrical components near heat sources. I've used it a few times on my builds with good luck. Always seems to protects the wires quite well and i imagine would do the same for a fuel line. Tony
I used a pipe insulation that I got at a heating and cooling business. They just gave it to me as it was s**** to them. It's foam and has a tinfoil like outer on it. Been working for 20 plus years.
Have used a short piece of stainless body molding spear. Couple of fabbed brackets to hold in behind your line clips. More a shield or deflector than an insulation. Worked fine
DEI has good stuff as hot rod mike said. You can get creative with their products too. I use the sleves on fuel lines and I took their starter heat shield and modified it to cover an electric inline fuel pump.
