Fuel me once...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Mr. Tomato Head, Oct 23, 2008.

  1. Ok, so now I have the fuel tank out of my '55 Ford Country Sedan. The 20 year old gas looked like fruit punch, but no discernible leaks were found. What should be my next step(s) before re-attaching? Is there a way to test the sensing unit (float?)? I need guidance my brothers.
My Latvian father-in-law always told me, "Be singer, dancer, movie star, not mechanic." I'm trying to dance, but I keep slipping on the grease!

sender can be ohm tested. regarding the tank...if all you see is fruit punch, you are lucky. drain it completely, bang on it lightly with a rubber hammer or your head to shake loose any dirt/rust, dump in a gallon of diesel fuel and swirl it around for a while and dump it out. repeat until clear. if it clears up after a couple of times, you should be good to go. Otherwise, you may need to seal it with a tank sealer.
