I am running 2 stromberg 81 carbs on a souped up 4 Banger. I am running a 5-9 PSI Electric pump, pumping 30 gallons an hour. I have a regular to adjust pressure down to 3 lbs, as that is what is recommended for 81 carbs.

when I open the carbs up, the pressure drops to 1 pound. In a drag race I am concerned that the carbs will not get enough gas at the wide open throttle and although it will run it will not reach its potential.

Should the pump hold 3 pounds constantly or will the 1 pound be enough to feed enough gas to make the 1/8 mile run and reach its potential.

If not are there recommendations on a pump that will do this

No other way than to do a test run and see. One PSI is usually fine for stromberg's

I’d bump it up a bit and run it again and see where you’re at.

So...you're worried about something that isn't happening?

    Only trust Good Quality gauges
$60 plus range , and when testing you'll find that you will end up with more than one gauge to verify accurate readings

Those dial type regulators are not reliable they use a restriction to lower pressure. What you need is a diaphragm type

So 30 gallons per hour is 1/2 gallon per minute, but is there a pressure tied to the flow rate of the pump? If it is 30 gallons per hour at zero pressure which equates to 1/2 gallon per minute; do you think you will use more than 1/2 gallon per minute at wide open throttle?

As others have said that regulator shown in your pic is likely the major contributor to your problem.

Where are you racing your banger?

  10. Purchase a Holley low pressure regulator - they are far better than the one you have. Also, as even the Holley low-pressure regulator is a "dead head" regulator, you will see pressure variations when the pressure drops, and the regulator lets fuel in.

You'll probably be fine, though the best racing regulators are "return style" regulators - which return the excess fuel to the tank and don't exhibit as much pressure variation in the process . . . these are not "dead head" regulators. I've not really needed them in your situation, but you won't know until you try!
