I need some help with my 235. I have been cranking my engine and it is turning but it is not firing. I just recently disconnected the pull side line from the fuel pump and I was able to get some gas to come out. I connected that line back up to the fuel pump and tried to start it with no success. I cannot get fuel up to the carb. Does anyone have any advise for this problem?

  2. We really need a little more information, how long has the car been sitting?have you cleaned the gas tank?took the line loose from the tank and blown air through it?

Do you have any inline filters under the car? HRP

The car has been sitting in storage for about five years without any start. I had just replaced the fuel line from the tank to the fuel pump just before going into storage. The pump was also replaced. The are no filters.

Assuming you have already checked for spark:

    Pull the air filter assembly.

Look down the carburetor throat while moving the throttle linkage.

See if the accelerator pump gives a squirt.

If it does not, you either do not have fuel in the float bowl, or the accelerator pump is bad.

No fuel in the float bowl could be: bad pump, clogged line, stuck float.

No pump squirt could be: no fuel in bowl, clogged passages, bad accelerator pump cup.

You can always try pouring a TINY amount of raw gas down the carburetor throat, and I do emphasize TINY!

Install a simple filter on the tank side.

Could be a broken fuel pump diaphragm or accumulated sludge laying in the bottom of the tank that has been drawn up into new line clogging the pump, consider washing the tank out. Does it have a vent tube or open fuel cap? My Ford had a sealed cap with vent tune that was blocked. It would start and then stall, when I blew out the vent line the car would start and run fine as there was no vacuum in tank.

So I have a fuel filter installed and I have fuel going into the carb. It almost starts when the engine stops turning and I get a crazy humming sound. I turn it over again and it almost cranks as though to start but all of a sudden everything stops along with the humming sound every time. Anybody know what this is? Is my engine seizing and how do I get past this?

This one sentence makes it seem like the starter gear is kicking out, from the engine speed increasing. The humming would be the starter motor "free-wheeling". That is normal.

I'd pull the plugs to make sure they are all dry. Then only pump the gas a couple of times. Does the accelerator pump squirt gas inside the carb, when you work the linkage?

Well, it turned out that my fuel tank needed to be replaced. I switched it out with a new tank and now I'm getting clean fuel up to my carb but I'm still not getting this engine to start. Feeling frustrated, any ideas?

  11. Check all connections from tank to pump to carb.May be sucking air.
