Ok here's my problem,my fuel pump is junk! So I need a new one or a rebuild kit,i have the dual diaphragm on mine but all I can find is single's,does anyone know where to find rebuild kits for the dual? Or a place to buy a new one cheap? What's the difference between the 2 pumps? The single action and dual action? I ***ume the single just doesnt have the greatest va***,right? How bad is it? Does it have ports for the wipers etc.? I also ***ume that the dual action fuel pump wasn't stock, what car did the dual come from? What years of cars n pumps work together? And everybody,I Really appreciate the help,im a young, broke SOB (literally) and this car is keeping me sane, seeing as I can't ride the Harley in the snow n salt,so Thank You All!!! And as soon as I can afford to buy a book I will, but all I can afford is parts,so any help I get here is very,Very welcome
Put 1954 Ford fuel pump in search on ebay and take your pick, the dual action will help you to have wipers that work better, single action pumps **** if you go up a hill in the rain the wipers almost stop.Or you might get lucky and find a member with a good used one, maybe shoot Alan Freeman a pm.
Is there no place that sells the diaphragms? Makes a rebuild kit? That's just crazy to me. What a waste of raw materials that go into that pump for it to be a one time use,do people think we have an inexhaustible silly of everything? Argh
There is an outfit who advertised in Old Cars Weekly a while back that said they have rebuild kits for almost any fuel pump. They claim thier new parts will stand up well with modern fuel. I give my old papers away, so I'm sorry to say I dont have one now. Can anyone help?
I saw a Carter pump for a '54 239 on Epay this am for $7.00. Maybe you ought to just make an investment...............hunt for the kit some other day, so you have a spare.
Would it be possible to just find a small vacuum pump and just hook it up to the wipers? Put it on its own switch
There is a guy on EBay listing a few double diaphragm pumps but they are 2000 years old, said they been sitting on a shelf, now how good are those diaphragms going to be? Will they be all dried out n junk? And all the doubles I can find are listed for the 6 cylinder, will they work on the 8? What's the difference? THank you all
The I6 pump won't do for a v8 - sorry. I grew up where it rains like crazy and never had ***isted wipers or electric either one until '72. You'll learn to adapt.........everytime you lift your right foot - it takes a swipe....
Looks like this is your best buy for now http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-NEW...ries&vxp=mtr&hash=item2a1734125d#ht_500wt_957 to get you by for now,you can get by with the single action since the bucks are tight, the wipers will just be on the slow side under load.I wouldn't worry about the diaphragm since it is new and has not had fuel through it,if it had fuel through it and sat then I would say p***.You can see the difference in 6 and V8 pumps from the ebay pictures the V8 has a much longer pump arm.
Ok I ordered a single action pump, they said it'll be in by 3pm on friday, which is the reason I ordered it. I can't stand not having my own car! Cost me 40$ so will be putting it in tomorrow after work, well going to the junkyard right after work to grab a steering wheel I found on Monday, its on a early 50's something and its beautiful,Chrome horn ring n everything 10$ bucks if I take it off myself.will let you know if pump fixes all my problems. thanks for all the help. I need to figure out how to post pictures one of these days too,I know eveyone likes the pics as much as I do
Ok so I got my fuel pump today, now I just need to hook it up,its a different set up than the dual action. Does the vacuum line for the wipers go right into the front of the manifold?
Got the new cruel pump in and she started right up,wipers do work I guess we'll have to wait n see how well. I would like to put a canister in if that really helps. My blower motor isn't working now,I guess that's my next project,it is damn cold here right now
Vacuum rerservoir canister attaches to intake manifold with check valve between intake and canister to keep vacuum in tank. Wipers to canister.
Try, Arizona Vintage Parts. I got reman for my I-6 at a great price and quick service. My vacuum wipers never worked better. I know they have Y-block items also. www.azvintageparts.com Cheers, Jim
