In my ongoing move to end my heat soak issue, I'm taking the good advice of many and installing a fuel return line to the tank on my '58 Studebaker. I have an Ebley fuel-water separator under the hood: ebley2.jpg Can I use one of the untapped OUT fittings to send the gas back to the tank?

Sure, I see no reason why not as long as it is close to the carburetor.

I use one of these style filters as used on late ‘60s big block Corvettes.

The 1/4" input/output ports are a little small for many applications.

Consider the WIX-33040 with 5/16" input/output ports. The return line is 1/4".

EDIT: The return port should be the highest point to return the vapor and let the fuel through.

No doubt there are several sizes I was only indicating that style as an easy method.

  6. Is the water separator on the pressure (after the fuel pump) or suction side (before the fuel pump) of your fuel system?

The fuel pump is by the tank (rear) and the separator is up front. The Walbro is low pressure, of course. My cheap-o fuel pressure gauge reads about 2 lbs. I wonder if by using the other OUT port, I'll be dropping the pressure to the carb? Suppose I can try and see what happens. If this doesn't cure the heat soak, it's got to be the carb.

Update... I removed the fuel/water separator for the filter with the 'third' port for a return to the tank. Ran 1/4" brake line back to my filler pipe. Removed it to install the bung... without getting metal ************* in my tank.
Time will tell if this works and she restarts more quickly , hot. If not, the carb is going back to Daytona Parts.
