Met an old guy here who has a beautiful restored to stock, 1937 Chevrolet coupe. This car was purchased by his dad in '37. It had corrosion in the tank so he had the tank boiled, new stainless fuel line from tank to pump, new fuel pump and new NOS carb. The problem is, after 3 to 5 miles, the engine quits just like running out of gas. Replaced fuel pump and carb but nothing changes. This happens every time he tries to drive it. Any ideas to pass on to him? Thanks.
Take the gas cap off and try driving it. Possibly drawing a vaccum on the tank would be my first thought.
Thanks guys, seeing the distance driven is almost always the same, that may answer the question, " how many miles does it take to create a vacuum in a 37 chevrolet fuel tank ".
Has it been converted to 12v and if so does it have a ballast resistor? My buddy's '53 was doing the same thing. It had been converted to 12v and the coil was overheating because of no resistor. Once it cooled off he could go another 3-5 miles. Just a thought. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
