I'm changing my fuel system back to a mechanical pump from electric.

Mild 327 SBC, Edelbrock 600 CFM no special fuel flow requirements, no racing etc

    I bought this pump

    https://www.gearheadworld.com/store/Small-Block-Chevy-Chrome-Mechanical-Fuel-Pump-P4954.aspx

    and this filter

    http://www.parrautomotive.com/index...egory_id=441/home_id=-1/mode=prod/prd3709.htm

Question is: I don't really have room up front between the pump and carb to mount this filter so the pump pushes through as in a stock set-up.
Any reason I shouldn't mount filter back near the tank, and pull through the filter to the pump?? (there is room to mount below the bottom of the tank to a sturdy support)

Best to mount that filter on the frame. It really makes no difference, just a cleaner look, but that filter is designed to be mounted under the car

Not a good idea to mount a filter before a pump. In general pumps dont like any sort of restriction on the inlet side. It's ok to put a screen before the pump but that's it. Pumps work better when the push through the filter. Even a slightly clogged filter will starve a pump if its on the inlet side.

I've mounted them back there on a couple of cars....but I don't anymore. I've twice had to change them on the side of the road, and it's no picnic. The fuel runs down your arms and into your face, and no place handy to wash up afterwards.

Now I mount them where I can see them and reach them from a standing position, no matter what it takes to build a bracket for it.

    my 2¢

Mechanical pumps are great ****ers so the filter between the tank and pump will work fine but, as has been pointed out, it isn't easy to change them, unless you put a shutoff valve in.

I would rather have **** from the tank caught before the pump as to not let the pump valves get blocked or stuck. You can also extend the line from pump to carb and body mount one in the engine bay.JW

I thought about mounting on the firewall,I have room next to or below a fuel block.

A shut off valve would be a great idea if mounting in the rear as it would be below the tank bottom.....HHHMMMM

    Thanks for all the input
