I am honered just knowing the guy. I go on Saturdays just to hear him tell stories. He is a great old guy. Anyone comes to Abilene I would be more than happy to take you out to meet him.
I have a friend who has one of those in the back of his model A truck. it is really scary how hot that thing gets when it sets out in the sun on a hot day. So hot you can't touch it!!!
Done in the style of a tailplane section (sort of). Has a gauge from a drop tank in the end. It's a very complex shape and is cut to flow around the rear cross member and the roll over hoops (hoops are not trad I know - but having my head on my shoulders is kinda trad with me). I have recently cut off the original brackets and made new ones which are much more substantial and heavily drilled.
We build extend versions of the "T" tank and extended rotated versions: http://thehotrodcompany.com/shopnow/show_dept.asp?dept_id=78
I made a "moon style tank from a small air compressor that was trhrown out because it didnt work and was off warrranty. Holds a fair amout of fuel.About 4 gallons. as mine was a tiny one . Bigger and longer are also available. I wanted the Moon look for my nostalgia dragster. You can have a look on my website linked below. I sanded it down. Sprayed it with Silver (Not aluminum) but Dodge truck silver often seen on the bottom half of Dodge trucks. It looks like i wanted it to. Perhaps it will have the look you are after.
