I recently swapped out my very leaky stock fuel tank in my 53 F100 and replaced it with a stock replacement poly tank. There were two fittings on the top of the tank, one was the pickup and the other I assumed was a vent. I ran a short length of fuel line off of that fitting, but fuel is leaking from it when I fill the tank. Was I wrong? is that not a vent fitting? If it is then why is it leaking? Rookie question, but any help would be great.
Shouldn't leak if the hose gets higher than the fuel level. I'd take it a few inches higher than the fuel level and then go down with it. Fuel expands quite a bit when it gets warmer than it was when it was put in.
I ran mine up in the rear inner fenderwell. Works fine. As mentioned you just need to keep the hose above the fuel fill line.
Tanks tank..????? we make the fittings and the grommets.. that being said made sure the vent is as high as you can get it above the tank.. if its not higher it can leak and also create a siphon effect to drain the tank.. Get it high.... Ok looking at the pics... it has the anti roll over valve.. they really dont seal 100% its a ball and a seat deal so if rolled over its better than trying to seal an overfill sitting upright.. Thats what you have ! If thats higher than the top of the tank then your filling the tank into the vent/rollover valve ... the tanks tank for the 32 fords and 34's if filled too full do the same thing.. guess you just need to practice filling and find out how much is enuff.. Ive run gas all over on my 32 and 34... just remember no smoking ! Dave
So the other fitting is a vent! I think jusjunk may have my problem pegged. I ran a short line from the fitting, but it is just draping over the side of the tank. I'll run a line up through the bed from the vent fitting. Thanks guys.
Thanks.. yup get the fitting with the roll over valve as high as you can and it will be all OK. Dave ps: no charge...
