Another possible source is a guy that sells on ebay. tomscl***ics is his auction name so you can search & see what he's got listed, I think he's in Minnesota. I got a new tank for my '56 - included the sending unit and 2 new straps, about $200, A-OK quality & fit. I don't know if he does '54s but usually he has a bunch of stuff listed.

I didn't know that. He forgot to send the straps with my tank, I called and he had them to me within a couple of days.

I guess if you're restoring it, then an OE style tank is good, I'm a big supporter of mustang tanks though, they're good stuff, and really cheap. It also lets you have the filler in your trunk with very little h***le

I just received my 56 tank, strap and sending unit from tomscl***ic. Top my door was $253, and it looks like ok stuff. I'm ***uming he can do 54 stuff too?

What was the reference about Mustang tanks???

If you call Drake directly and basically ask them for the sale price on their 54 tank, using your best haggling abilities...they'll give you the $260 price on their reproduction tank (at least they did for me)...which is a, no questions, first cl*** piece.

The retail price of $320 was too rich for my blood, but $260 made it acceptable, and sure enough, when it showed up, the thing is like art-work it's so nice. Drake has also modified the fuel sender opening to accept a wide variety of modern senders.

Don't have any first hand experience with this Tom fella off of eBay, but he sounds ok based on yalls testimonials.
