fuel tanks in Model A's

what have you guys done for fuel tanks in your coupes, I want to put it in the trunk area, but havent found one that I like the fit.....I dont care for the round dune buggy style, and I would like something I could possibly put a sending unit in.maybe fuel cell?

If you run fenders you can use the TANKS brand ones that go behind the running board aprons.

I have a friend that made a wierd shaped tank under the floor with a notch for his battery. I made him put in a driveshaft loop just in case.

On my truck I made my tank under the bed and the back of it is the rolled pan.

 

the problem with the tanks-tanks is you have to rock the car to get the one on the far side full....btw flt blk that stude in the cl***ifieds is wicked. just sold my 53 resto-rod champion and got very close to that price. yours is a bargain with all the mods!

 

I'm using this in my 31 5w A coupe

75.00 w/ sender. Keeping the stock tank cause it's cool.

I used a Tanks 14 gal universal tank in my 29 roadster---used a ski-boat filler in the back panel--tank has sender--fuel line from the top plus a roll-over vent-- www.tanksinc.com ----the tank I used is a US-1

 

Same question. Where'd ya get it and how many gallons do it hold?

i have a repop T oval tank in my A.with some old air comressor tank feet.

 

Fellow Hamber willing to part with it.

 

look in a bone yard for a jaguar xjs. tank is the perfect shape to fit in the front of the trunk from what i remember

I have a model T oval tank in mine, sat down low behind the rear diff. I think it's 10 or 11 gallons.

 

Ran a couple of in trunk tanks in my coupe. Finally changed it out with a 32 style tank. Liked it better, no smell and nothing in the way to fill it. Back to running a inside tank on the hiboy roadster though.

Holds 15 gallons, doesn't take too much room as the pic of my pal's 29 roadster shows.

Ideas that are slightly outside the norm.

A Volkswagon tank has a nice shape on the bottom that would prolly fit the contour of a rear end pretty well.Has center bottom outlet and a gauge.If it was mounted right in the floor it would only take up a little space (Oh hell you've seen a Volkswagon Beetle before you know what the profile above the foor looks like)and would let ya use the trunk for what it was meant for.LOL

Or how about the stock A tank with no gauge just reserve style valve like Motorcycles and early Volkswagons.
I always liked the way the cap looks in the center of the cowl especially a flip top.

Sidevalve the owner of the Hot Rod Company sells an oval model T tank that is great...... he has them in stock laid down position and custom stood up positon.... they are really nice and with the two styles there are alot of options for placement...

 

My roadster has a tank that fills the footwell for the rumble seat. Limits the rumble to kids only, but the tank holds substantially over 20 gallons.

 

Great guy to deal with too, and is an Alliance member to boot.

 

Using a T oval tank it fit between my seat and rise in trunk floor and have a sender in the top of it

This is a question I've thought of a lot. I realize the risk of running the fuel in the stock gas tank... but does anyone do it? Don't mean to high jack the post, just something I've wondered about. Probably a pretty stupid question, but what the hell.

 

Gotta give credit to my pal Dean, he turned me onto them.

 

i've never owned a model a, but i have several friends who've run the original tanks in hot rods. at least a couple were built back in the 70's and have about a zillion miles on them. not one that i know of has ever had any problems with utilizing the original tank.

 

I dont know Jeff, that kinda looks like a canadian moonshine running tank to me

I picked up an OLD Ford and sons tractor tank. It holds about 10. Nice shape too.
