I really dig the look of a Fulton on certain vehicles, like my 49 GMC.

My daily driver decided to stop running a couple of weeks ago, so I put about 700 miles on the 49 GMC over the last two weeks.

Gas mileage is a consistent 16 MPG.

BEFORE the visor, it was 19 MPG.

Anybody else see a reduction in gas mileage with a visor???

    Thanks,
    Rich

Maybe, but there is no glare in your eyes. Is the visor worth 3mpg?

The 3 mpg mileage reduction is because of the way
you have it mounted. If you put it on upside down
and backwards,:)eek:), your mileage will actually
increase and go from 19 mpg to 22 mpg!!!:D:D

It's basically a parachute attached to the front of your roof. I am not surprised at the big drop in mileage. I like them on some vehicles, too, but it's just not worth that kind of mileage drop.

If you really want to keep it, I suspect that making new brackets to mount it so the rear edge is farther out from your windshield might lower the drag some (but that's just a guess).

Put it all the way down, completely over the windshield I think it will increase your MPG.

I bet it's makes more wind noise, too, eh? Imagine how bad it would be if the back wasn't open at the roof!!! Gary

The real question is why wouldn't a visor decrease mileage. I take it off myself, as neat as it is gas is just too dang expensive.

Wow... that's a 24 gallon difference on the trip I made to Austin for the LoneStar Roundup.
At $3.50+ a gallon, that adds up quick.
I did the look of a Fulton too, but the truck doesn't look BAD without it... and if it's going to be doing daily-driver duty, I'd pull it.

What's cooler: driving it daily without the visor, or looking around for something less cool that gets better than 19mpg? What kind of mileage would another vehicle get? 21? 23? You can eat the difference between 19 and 22... by keeping the visor, you're eating the difference between 16 and 22, and that's just throwing money away.

those are my favrite style chevy pickup. i dont know what your round trips to work are so maybe i would take it off during the week, maybe not because it dose take two people to put it on or off. but i have always liked them better with them on.

Don't take it off if you like it, totally wrong approach, just throw a belly pan on it to offset the drag from the visor.

I've noticed a similar thing when I wear a baseball cap. if I take it off and set it on the seat beside me my mileage goes way up... and a little side note, if I lean forward and squint my top speed goes up 4 MPH. I can bump it up 1 MPH more if I have a good fart.

I like the visor regardless of what it costs. If you commute like me, yeah, maybe take it off until the daily is fixed (what's wrong with it anyway?)

My daily goes in the shop next week... but my "Plan B" is a new BMW driven by a cougar with nice ****ies. ;)

Have one on the '51 and have never driven it without. So, my mileage is the same. The trailer on the back DOES affect milage somewhat...

This has been my daily driver, only vehicle for the past 12 years, visor the last ten. You can't replicate the same conditions no matter how hard you try in the real world. I do believe that having a visor does decrease your mileage, I think the way you have it mounted is more like an air dam. I get 16 in the city, 19 highway, and that's 70-75, 3sp+od, '56 235, Fentons, '848 head'. I live in the rolling foothills, there is flat to the east but my travels don't take me there much.

I love the look and the cab is a whole lot cooler with a visor and a light colored roof. I say change the angle and drive.

There never was anything cool about sunvisors. They were in the same category as mudflaps (with lights), phony dual pipes, fake bolt-on Caddy fins, and maybe foxtails. The only difference with sunvisors was that old men used them as well.

With or without it's still gonna cost you $4.00 a gallon when you hit the pump. You have to think of it in terms of smiles per mile.

  30. ***uming 4 bucks a gallon and a 15 gallon tank, it's about $11 a tank to keep it on.
I think my math is right

    I'd pay that...it looks cool.
