Those 70’s Funny Cars where my childhood dreams…when they were on Wild World Of Sports I was glued to the TV..
One of the all time best sites for diggers and floppers. Please don't drag and drop pictures, they really are a great resource and we don't need to tromp on the OE site. https://wediditforlove.com/new-floppers.html
Funny cars lost their humour at some point! It's probably not possible to pinpoint an exact year, but I'd expect the slide to have begun somewhere in the '80s.
I just saw some of the Blue Max funny cars recently. We need an enclosed trailer for a marketing tractor where I work so we went to get a quote on getting a stacker style trailer built. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Performax Trailers in Texas is the same guy that campaigned the Blue Max cars. Kinda cool to pull up to find two funny cars peaking out of the a garage on the house...
Yeah, when they got so stretched and pinched that they no longer actually represented the car they were supposed to be. I realize it’s all about the aero, but look at the nostalgia funny car class they run now, you can still tell what they are supposed to be, and really aren’t that much slower than the blobs they run in FC right now. Pro Mod is going the same direction. Good to see the old body shapes, but they are getting pinched and stretched so much many of them look like 80’s funny cars….
Old High School friend runs this one…Detroit History here..Poncho’s old car…always like to see this one at the track
The best thing about the 60’s funny cars is they are pretty much identical body’s from oem. Another one of my favourites. I took this picture at Lions in November 69. My sister is posing.
