Have a fusible link from starter (battery post) to alternator. It's 11 1/2"long, diameter is same as 12ga. wire. It's marked 3.0 sg or maybe sq. fusible link. It ohms out good, but the terminal end pulled off. If I fit a new terminal, it will be too short and too tight. Where can I get one? What's the secret code? Are these thing's application specific? Never saw one this size, only smaller, like 14 ga. Or, do I really need it? Unit is a ZZ4 crate motor in a 57 Pontiac.

3.0 sq mm is right between 12 and 13 AWG wire size

what size wire is it connected to? that's it's job, is to protect that other wire. usually 4 AWG sizes smaller fuse link, than the wire it's protecting.

so if it's protecting an 8 AWG wire, replace it with 12 ga fuse link. If it's protecting 10 AWG wire, use 14 awg fuse link.

  3. You don't need it, and it's not really a good idea anyway. What size is your alternator? 70 amps? More? Size the wire to the alternator output; I'd go with a minimum of #10, but would prefer to see a #8 or #6 as the larger size will reduce voltage drop.
