Does anyone know a source for the carpet used in some late fifties to early sixties Pontiacs and Buicks with the tinsel woven in so it has a sparkle to it? Or even What the stuff is actually called? Thanks.
Have you tried www.hamptoncoach.com, it sells GM trim? www.lebaronbonney.com does the Ford side of things.
SMS Auto Fabrics! http://www.smsautofabrics.com I used to own a 1966 Buick Electra (it also had those tinsel highlights) and contacted them about it. They said they would send me two possible samples! A few weeks later I got a letter in the mail with two real fabric samples and one was correct. Keep in mind I'm in Australia. They have a fantastic website (the last time I contacted them was in 2002) so I did a bit of a search for you and found this page but it's just a start. Spend some time searching and I'm sure you'll find what you are looking for. Ask them for a sample and they'll probably send you a few just to be sure. Here's the actual letter scanned and yes those are real fabric samples cut off the roll and sent to me stapled to the letter! I actually came across it the other day when cleaning out some old desks from years ago and when you requested the special material I knew exactly what you needed was at SMS Auto Fabrics.
