My car has 235/75/15 s on the rear and I want to go a little shorter. How much shorter should I go? Gotta get the car up high to get the tires off

depends on the front tire size, IMHO about an inch taller in the back looks good damn near every time

I run tall tires on my 63, I just jack it up one side at a time on the frame in front of the spring so the tire will come out of the wheel well further.

215/75/14s for the front. It had two different sizes on the front and I got a good set of matched used ones because I don't plan on keeping these wheels. I think a 28 inch tire looks a little big on it

tires.com has a tire size calculator that works good, gives you the size in inches(w&h) and compares side by side, used it a million times.

im not sure if you know how tire sizing works but the 235 stands for how wide your tires are by mm the 75 is 75% of the width which will be your sidewall height and the 15 obvuously means 15 inch wheel it all depends on how wide you want the tires, you can do a 235/70/15 which will still be just as wide but it wont make to big of a differnece in height, or you could go to a 225/70/15 which will only be 10 mm diference in width. and probably around 1.5-2 inch difference in height.

Will 15x8 wheels fit good in the rear?

How wide of a wheel and tire will fit on the back of the Galaxie? Any pictures of different sizes?

with a 15x8, your tire width will be around 10" or a bit wider, depending on the tire size. Just check for clearance with the tires that are on there and add the difference with different tires

It has 235/75/15 on the rear now. A little big to me but the tires are good. Will a 15-8.5 fit? I saw some new torque thrusts that were that size and looked really wide. That the wheels I want to run in the picture you posted

On my Ford country sedan I'm running 215/75 in front and 235 /75 in the rear. This setup gives a real nice stance.

are the fender wells about the same size on the 60-64 galaxies?

We've ran 15x8 rims on the rear of several 61-64 Galaxies and never had a clearance issue once they are installed. During installation/removal, I always unbolt the shock from the u-bolt plate before raising the car off the ground and this lets the rear end drop farther down away from the car. Sometimes it also helps to use a thin piece of plastic or aluminum between the inner fender edge and tire so you don't niche or chew up your tire sidewall upon removal/installation. A license plate works good for me.
Here are a couple shots of my 64 with 15x8 rims on the rear and 275/60-15 tires.

Looks pretty good. Kind of the look I'm going for. Sounds like it is no fun if you have a flat on the side of the road?

I can get the street tires off of both, but to get the 11.00 Blue Streaks off the 406 car I have to disconnect the shocks so the rear end will drop down more, and they just come out

Right, would not be very user friendly changing a tire on the side of the road, but in a parking lot and the right tools on hand, it would not be much on an ordeal. I should probably make up such a tool kit myself and keep it in a box in the trunk!

I don't even have a spare yet. What kind of jack works good that gives alot if lift without taking up alot of space? Also what kind of backspacing are you running with 8inch wheels?

Do you know what the back spacing of you rear wheels are? I would like to mount some big tires or slicks on mine for some track time later. BTW Beautiful car.
