A buddy of my dad's had a 61 Starliner like that when I was a kid. It was a Red 390 401hp stick car. It had less than 7k original miles on it in the mid 1980's. It was bought new and raced. He sold it a year or 2 later because he didn't want to drive it on the street and add to the miles. He sold it to a collector during the 1st muscle car boom. He then bought another 61 390/401hp Starliner with about 40k on it. That one was black. They were probably one of the biggest influences on my love of Galaxies. Nothing like the sound of those 401 horses suckin' in as much air as possible through the 3 deuces on a hard launch! Another buddy of my dad's has one of those motors with the tripower in his 53 F-100.
Definitely post some more of the old photo's!

  3. Ok, here is one of dad with some of his trophies, late '61. The other two are of Bonner's 63s lightweights in Atlanta and his '62 lightweight in front of Frank Vego Ford in Atlanta.

A few Fords, not all Galaxies.. I was born under the sign of the General but those 61-63's have some nice lines..

Wow this is an impressive thread! Brings back memories. Saw a Super Stock Thunderbolt and 427 Fairlane run at the Gatornats when I first moved to Florida way back when. Those cars would make the hair stand up on the back of your head when they launched. Too bad so realitively few early car hot rodders took advantage of the firebreath'in FE power. There is a must read book for `60's Ford drag race enthusiasts. It is entitled "Total Performers, Ford Drag Racing in the 1960's" It shall we say puts a lot of things in perspective and dispells alot of myths propagandized by the mainstream car enthusiast magazines. Good job guys!

I'm going to look at this one on Friday.

I'm flying down to Riverside with hopes of driving it home to NorCal. The scary part is that the forecast for the ride home is around 105 degrees the whole way! If I can work a deal, it will be a HOT drive in a car I don't know that has no carpet. It'll be an adventure.

The price is a little steep, but I hope he'll deal.

Not sure about plans yet, but I'll most likely go with dropped spindles and disc brakes up front, maybe bags out back, rebuild or replace the motor over the winter if it ends up needing it, AOD if it needs a tranny, keep the wide whites but probably go with full caps of some sort or chrome steelies or Radirs or Astro Supremes, full interior (hopefully by Fat Lucky), probably some sort of lace panel job or Watson style scallops.

    I gotta make it mine.

In the meantime, I'd just like to have a car to drive again.

That green 64 is a VERY nicely done car with so many subtle changes done to it, unless you were very into 64s you may not catch all the modifications. It had 2005 Tbird tail lights, the quad headlights are 7 inch not 5 1/2, the bulge that runs from the front of the fender and tapers ending almost at the back of the door was extended about another 3 feet, there were more mods I just cant recall, just a very tastfully done custom

I have not been able to get the one Cole built out of my head since I saw it 6-7 years ago when it debuted in Paso. Simple, simple, simple!

AND THEN IN PASO DAMON LEE SHOT IT FOR CUSTOM RODDER AS WELL. BUT DON'T HAVE ANY INFO ON WHEN IT WILL IN EITHER MAG.

Thanks eric, I am really happy with the way it turned out. I love driving my cars,It was a 4500 mile trip to paso and home via the sequoias park, yosemite, then a short cut over a bad ass mountan paso by a marine training camp . then we stoped in this kool town called brighton, then we went to Utah on the back roads, bonneville salt flats, natual arches park then back road to denver ,where we got on I-70 and blasted home. A week on the road in your car with your best buddies can't be beat !!! everyone should do a trip like that, the sights you see are killer. one of the highlights were somewhere in the middle of Utah on this back road that we never passed anouther car for 3 hours, we thought the road ahead looked rather funny ,it ws covered with grasshoppers, millions of them! my ft. bumper was packed with them about a half inch thick, it was crazy. the radiator was packed also, this was one of the best trips I have ever been on. we stayed off of the interstate as much as possible. we saw 4 corners, monument valley, hiway 666,the grand canyon, several mountan passes, bug trees, water falls, the salt flats, and paso robles. I got inducted into the beatniks this year, and am proud to fly the purple all the way back home to kansas. The best thing I can tell everyone is plan a cross country trip and GO !! HEY the spectacular is next weekend in salina,ks load up and go !! jeff
