Hi, I understand that there are recomended gap measurements for body panels. I am working on my 39 Ford Dlx. coupe. It was hit in the ass a few years ago when I was going to the Jalopy Showdown. I am finally getting around to putting in new below the trunk pan and tool tray. The deck lid has two small dings and I think the lid was sprung a little. If you have a coupe lid that fits nice, please let me know the gap between the lid and roof. I figured I would start out with a 1/4 in drill bit to gage the gap. What is the gap on the sides at the quarter panels? What is the gap near the latch. My cell is 540 535 5109. Thanks for any help anyone can offer! Gary

  2. Gary, you might want to ask some of the guys on the "Ford Barn" they may be more into the "correct" details like that

I just measured gaps on the 40 coupe in my avatar and got this.
Center of the top edge of the trunk lid between it's top edge and the roof. .177 #16 drill
Gap between the tail pan and lid directly below the trunk handle. .201 #7 drill
Gap between the lid edge and the rear quarter panel at the top corners .281 K drill
Gap between side of lid and rear quarter about half way down from top edge .377 V drill.
Gap between edge of trunk lid and rear quarter panel about 3/4 of the way down from the top corner .348 S drill
All measurements were taken with rubber seal installed and trunk latched tightly.
If you need more info I will be glad to make more measurements and email them to you.

    Whose tail-pan are you using?

Mine is a Deluxe Conv. Sedan, but I can still check the gaps when I get a chance just for comparison.

The tail pan on my 40 is the stock tail pan as it came installed on the car from the factory. Fortunately, the car has never sustained any damage to tailpan.
