I started another project that I hope turns out ok. I don’t like having a garage door opener in the car for various reasons, but I need to open the garage obviously!

Anyway, I purchased this momentary ****on. It matches the ****on on my dash used for popping the trunk open.

I decided to open up my garage door opener. I located the ****on in it that operates the door and located the solder points on the logic board.

I soldered 2 wires to it and connected them to my new ****on.

It works! I made a cutout on the case and put it back together.

Next update will include installation. I’m going to have to drill a hole in the dash panel and affix the opener to the back of it. Once I feed the wires through, I’ll connect the new ****on and finish the install.

That looks like a great idea, I wonder if the opener will work mounted inside the dash. If it does, I might install mine the same way.
    Thanks for posting.

I’ll have time to install it on Wednesday. I’ll let you know if it works.

Keep it easily accesible so you can change out that ****on battery.

I was sitting and staring at the dash yesterday asking myself what I might be overlooking!

    Thanks Texas!

"I was sitting and staring at the dash yesterday asking myself what I might be overlooking!" Hahahaha
I'm curious about the "will it work under the dash?" also. Next time I'm out in the '57 I'll have to hold the remote under the dash when I click it to see.
Venom, I'm ***uming that is a remote you have been using and know it works in a normal position.?
LOL, after building my car in a converted carport that, to get it out, I had to remove the front wall, and take down a chain link fence while not letting any of our 5 dogs out, I'm thrilled just to have a normal garage that even opens with the push of a ****on regardless of where the remote is.

Hahaha...funny thing is, the remote works when and how it wants to. Sometimes I actually lower it below the dash because it won’t work as I hold it out the window, pointed right at the garage!

We’ll see how it goes but I better have a house key with me...

Well, after some dremel work, cuss words, and cut knuckles, it’s in. The opener worked with everything sealed up. I haven’t tried from outside and away from the driveway but it’s looking good. I’ll update a little later. I need to find some bandaids...

I can confirm that it definitely works under the dash. I’ve been able to consistently open and close the garage door from the street.

I’m pleased with the results. The only bump is I’ll have to remove the dash panel whenever the battery needs replacement. But, because of where I placed it, it shouldn’t be that much of a h***le.

checked mine today, held it way under the dash and it worked. I may steal your idea if /when I get a second remote. I'll install mine on my console with some longer wires....changing batteries will be a snap. Thanks for the idea.

Great idea. I am going to do this with my wife's car. Breaking in to cars around here is getting ridiculous. Damn meth heads.
