If you fABRICATE do not use epoxy. Seal it, or paint it, then use old carpets. i use LATEX floor and porch/deck paint about $20 gal. from home depot,,,very light grey dries in an hour and will be ready for second coat yea it gets dirty but the oil does not soak in, wipes up eaSY,,resists most chemicals once a year i blow out the shop, and give it 2 quick coats in just a few hours. NOT AS preety as epoxy, but works better. painting the floor real helps make the shop brighter, cuase the lights reflect off tthe floor. sealer does not seem to make the shop brighter.
Epoxy on a garage floor is awesome, and it WILL stand up to fabricration and welding no problem. The biggest thing is prep, just like painting a car. IF the concrete is not clean the epoxy will not last. My old garage it lasted for 5 or 6 years no problem, then I moved. My old shop 3 years no problems except where the floor didn't get cleaned well. When it's done it's awesome to work in. Cleans easy. Reflects light. I have no problems with it at all. My shop now they had used floor paint and it's coming up everywhere. Not even worth the time.
