Hi, guys, Sorry I've been away, lots of hours at work the last couple of weeks. Zerk, trying to find more pics for you and all the others. 4T, You'll have to weigh that one out. You're probably right, but, what's life without a little adventure. Sled, feel free to post pics. We'll all enjoy them. I'm looking around, but, not much time. I've got Ray looking too. But, here's another of the '39 in blue taken at another show. Enjoy!

  3. Where has Ray been, ain't heard from him now that he's famous? I can never get him out of town to the good shows with his eye sight. We are heading to the Rumblers show in Ct. this weekend. You should talk Ray into letting you drive again and bring him with us.
Two hour ride, one our to long Island Ferry, 1hr. Ferry ride, and another 1hr to the show. Lots of Flatheads and some great cars. Love to see ya Ray...

    Hey Mel,
Ray is usually at Beacon Street in Neptune on Wednesday evenings. Stop by and join us. Bring some friends. Show some of the gold chainers what traditional rodding is all about.

Lately, i don't get to see much of him either, Mel. Hi, Ed. I'll probably be at Beacon Street tomorrow night. Still hunting for pics. Not to go off subject, but, I did find another one from my past if anyone likes trucks. Here's a 1960 International Oil Truck that was owned by my father. Pic was taken around 1966. You really can't see him, but, my grandfather, Pop, is behind the wheel.

Hey, everybody! Beacon Street was slow last night, probably because of the weather threat. BUT!! weather permitting, Ray will be there next week (he was there last night too) with not one but two cars. He also owns a 1951 Merc he bought last year. THE PHOTOS WILL ABOUND! I'm still looking for old ones. Guess nobody liked the truck.

Gremlin, how are ya doin? Good to hear from you. I started with this stuff when I was around12 or 13, when I bought a 1952 Ford Victoria for $10.00. It had minimal rust, a great interior and a smokey flathead that ran and a Ford-O-Matic transmission. My first '49 Ford F-1 followed, again, with a smokey flathead, but, not as bad as the '52. body was not bad. Paid $20.00 for that. Next came a '56 F-100 with a rebuilt engine for $350.00. All this before I was 17. A Model A followed, pic below taken in 1980 right after I finished building the car, which took 2 1/2 years. It was a basket case when I bought it, but, the body wasn't all that bad. It had no interior and most of the chrome was no good. This was its first day on the road and it was going to do a wedding. I had no idea how it was going to perform, as I had not rebuilt the engine at that point. But, it did great. My father drove it since I was in the wedding party. That's me standing there, but, I don't look like that anymore. The car hasn't changed, kind of like the picture of Dorian Grey, where I'm the picture, or, the pics of Ray taken standing next to the '39 that were taken 50 years apart. The car is still around, and I get to drive it once in awhile, since a good friend of mine owns it now although I didn't sell it to him. There ws another owner in between. I could type volumes, but, I'll stop for now and leave this pic. Enjoy. See ya, Gremlin... Keep at it!

So, it's me again. Nobody has anything to say anymore. So far, the Red Bank, West End , Dearborn Farms, and Monmouth Park shows have passed us by. Ray won a trophy at the Dearborn Farms show. It was so big, we had to take it home for him. If anyone has any questions for Ray, post them here and I'll ask him since Ray is not a computer guy (yet, but, we're working on him). Anyone ever have a '36 3 window. If so, post a pic. Ray likes them alot. Any posts from you older guys of your hot rods from the 50's and 60's would be interesting. Show 'em off!

:) Hey Guys-Greetings from Long Branch,NJ America's First Seashore Resort and 7 time U.S. Summer Capitol.
Happy to say I have known Ray and his wife for close to 40 years now....and the stories are all good.
Stop by Ray's house for 5 minutes to say HELLO and before you know it an hour or more has gone by just talking about cars, family, the world and remembering.
Sure Ray was with us for those 3 day car shows at the old Long Branch Armory(now the Promanade Beach Club) and the Cruise to the Jersey Shore car shows that I started at the beachfront 13 years ago with or without his car but always there to help out.
While walking down Broad Street in Red Bank and holding my young nephew in my arms (he's 18 now) after Cruise Night had wound down and most of the cars and people had gone we had to go by 3 guys standing in a dimly lit doorway....good guys...badass guys up to no good?....just John McCray,Butch Colosimo and Ray Cass....and then there were 4 guys and a kid standing and talking in that dimly lit doorway.
Cant forget the time John stopped by my house on his way to Woolleys on Broadway to buy a pair of pants....somehow we wound up at Rays house and the next thing we knew we were on our way to N.Y.C. in my dads new van to the Thanksgiving weekend I.C.C.A. car show at the Coliseum!....so many stories.
ZERK-where McDonalds is on Broadway is where Cass' Market used to be and across the street was the Flying A gas station and where Procraft is on Eatontown Boulevard at Monmouth Road in Oceanport is where the old speed shop was located ....all places to find a young Ray.
Ray and his wife wife had the '39 at West End Cruise Night with the 'DUPREES' in concert parked on Brighton Avenue in front of the Family Pharmacy(10,000 people out that night-LINK nsewspaper) what a great night and we are back for West End Cruise Night 2 on august 11th hope top see you locals there.
BigEd-Regards to Terry....probably won't make Woodward....thanks for the invite....doing the music at Lead East thuis year with Wolfman Jerry and the Golden Gup from W.M.T.R.

Hey folkses, long time nobody writing. Well, it's been a long winter and I'm glad to see it go. Ray is too, since now he has his Triumph back on the road to pay homage to the oil companies that seem to enjoy having THEIR hands so deep in OUR pockets. I wonder how much they're paying? Enough about THEM. The '39 will be at Long Branch on the 15th. I'll have a car there too, I hope. Start writing!

  16. I love the old stories and the history that the "graybeards" bring to what we love. I would love to be able to just sit, watch and listen and learn as these guys talk and work on their stuff. Seem that so much knowledge and experience is passing every day. I hope that someday some young kid will want to learn from the little bit that I know.

Please keep up the stories and photos. I for one will look and learn as much as I can.

    mandriano,

Ray and his '39 often show up at the Wednesday night cruise at Beacon Street Grille in Neptune, NJ. He also sometimes comes to the Monday night cruise at Luigi's in Tinton Falls.

Ray will be at the Long Branch Promanade cruise (sans '39) I'll probably be with him. As for Mrs. getting on the Triumph, I am fairly certain the answer would be "Fogetaboutit!" But, she's been known to surprise us on more than one occasion. Beacon Street is the best place to catch him with the '39.

  25. Hey guys, please take no offence as I like you guys... but this really cool thread is now about you guys B.S.ing back and fourth and local car shows...

Promote local cars shows with a new thread. Pm each other to say hello, or tell us something new about yourselves elsewhere, please.

I talked to Ray this weekend a few times and he told me he wasnt going to take the 39 to Long Branch.

Somebody needs to get Ray's old ass on the computer or tell some stories bout him, or let this one be...

Ray is supposed to come over in next few weeks to work on some stuff here, I'll snap some pics... and tell you something funny. I have two stories from last week, but don't have a second right now. He is a maniac.

You should here him bitch about this girls beautiful ass hiding his car in this shot ....hahahahaa.

You know, I never told the story about the time Ray let me take the "39 to the Old Time Drags at Raceway Park. This was in 1983. It was a good day and a buddy of mine went with me. The '39 was just put on the road (that's another story) and was running 6 volts, the original type distributor, the spark plug wires that ran through (and wasted spark on) those steel pipes, and a single 2 barrel carb. Even with all this (and the fact that I probably could have pushed it harder than I did, but, didn't want to have to deal with the guilt if I broke something, not to mention having to explain it to Ray) it still turned a 16 and change, just shy of 17 second quarter and got up to 70MPH. I'm looking for the pics of the car at the drags but can't find them just now. I'll post 'em if I find 'em.
