pure quality. professionaly done (which is goddamned near non-existant in the magazine industry currently, anyone notice that but me?). perry and stoner were both VERY cordial and easy to talk to at the first round up. perry was a hoot. and he takes some AWESOME photos. if you don't like the content, don't look at it, but realize what you are looking at is VERY NICELY DONE.

OK, here's the poop on what's going on:

You're right--that pic I posted is the cover for the upcoming Issue #4. It will be shipped out by late December.

Issue #3 is exactly the same number of pages, just a lighter paper. Lighter paper makes for a lighter magazine and less cash spent on shipping. And then more cash spent on content.

We're up to running at quarterly status, so look for 4 issues every year. That may increase, but for now, 4 is all I can do without suddenly bursting into flames.

And that logo...hmmm...anyone know of a good logo guy? Preferable one that owns a bitchin car? Maybe a black '38? If you know of anyone, let me know.

  9. The logo? As in the title? I think it's OK. Seen MUCH worse.

  10. Hey,

I my $0.02...I respect anyone who puts out their own mag - its a fucking shit load of work and whilst I also respect personal opinion too...I think that if everyone got behind the guys doing things like this the better. One more person doing a rod and custom mag is one less doing a street machine/GQ/women's weekly.

Downunder we dont have all the offerings our Stateside/Euro friends have, but to me the mag looks like its doing something different to everyone else. I personaly really dig Rolls & Pleats and its the only one I bother buying on a regular basis...but for something a bit more chilled out...I dig Garage. Plus the other argument is some of us actualy like combining elements of music, culture and fashion with our thirst for building cars. That may piss of some of the purists on here...but its just the way it is.

To the Garage staff - good work.

    Danny

I personally got to hang with one of the guys that puts out Garage Magazine at the Rumblers Show in New York. I just have to say that he was one of the nicest, geniun guys I have met in a long time. I like people that know what they like and don't care what everyone else is doing. Makes this little world of ours so interesting. Keep up the good work on the mag and publish what ever the hell intrest you. Some one will be on the same path as you.

Thanks for the rags too!!! [IMG]

I don't think it sucks, but looking quickly at the picture of the cover(I glanced at the magazine at the newsstand and passed on it.Seeemed to be aimed at people my son's age)it looks as if it says,"gay age".Personally I like text lettering but I don't think it should be all lower case. The one bad feature about text letters is they are hard to read.Just my opinion.

content wise, its good, it fills a niche that others don't.

i was however disappointed when i got #3 in the mail, CRAMMED into a standard size padded manilla envelope along with 2 tshirts and a rag, made for kind of a ratty looking mag.

  21. So the general consesus is that some like it and some don't. Those who don't just want to see more rods, kustoms, and maybe even a bobber or two.

As far as that logo goes...I really dig it. It's unique and goes well w/ the whole sort of dark feel that the magazine has.

Content issue or not, I think it's pretty rad that Stoner is busting his ass and making it happen. Doing up a magazine is tough freakin' work. Having nice layouts, sweet pic.'s, and good proofreading makes it even harder.

I have never bought, or not bought a magazine because I liked or didn't like the graphics of the logo. I buy them for content that interests me.

Yeah I suppose, but that logo is really bad.

Stoner - I don't know any good designers that would drive a black '38. Sorry.

Anything that David Perry does is awesome. That guy is one hell of a photographer. Granted, the actual subject of the photos he does is usually a model abt he finds these great cars to use as set dressing.

yeah, the mag is kinda boring to me, I only pick it up once in a while...

But while I wait in the pouring rain at the train crossing on spokane street trying to go to work it would be more interesting to read GARAGE magazine than to watch the train go by loaded with tons of lumber cut from trees in WASHINGTON to be used for houses in CALIFORNIA...

And I always spill my Starbucks cuz none of my cars have power steering and you gotta use both hands to turn any kind of a corner in a timley manner...

It rains here all the time, its dark, cold and miserable...

SO WHY DO SO MANY CALIFORNIANS COME TO LIVE HERE???

GERM, we should hang out some day. We can walk down delridge way drinking 40's making fun of the homeless and unemplyed crackheads.... Get into fights with the cambodians.... You down??? -J.

I visited Seattle a year and a half ago and I doubt I'd want to live closer than 50 miles to it.
It's just too similar in the "Well ya just gotta put up with that stuff to live here" things that are wrong with right here, so why bother changing one dirty, mean city for the same.
Well, Maybe for not having to water the lawn.... [IMG]
But just for shits & giggles I looked at some home prices in th Vancouver WA area, (Most of my family live there) and I could sell the 1400'sq tool shed I live in here, and buy a 2000'sq house there and have $100K left over.
That's why Californians are moving up there.
    It's the economic factor.

And the logo doesn't totally suck... It's just the title font reminds me of Munsters meets The Flying Nun. I don't know why, it's just those two shows pooped into my head while I was looking at the cover pic. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Well I was going to stay out of this one, but since my family has lived in the Seattle area for 111 years now (as of last August) I feel the need to defend my home.

First, Starbucks is only our most popular coffee export. Anyone who really knew the city could name a dozen other coffee chains and identify their distinctives. But none of the ones I know have anything to do with cars at all, let alone traditional rods, so its a moot point.

Second, Seattle hasn't burned in nearly 100 years. Southern California is on fire every couple years. And around here if you do manage to get some damp magazines to smoulder a little the rain will put it out real quick.

Third, we have one of the longest hot rod building seasons outside the mid-west. All that rain makes for good excuses to be in the garage instead of doing yard work or fighting fires or cleaning up from your last earthquake.

Fourth, if you like genuine patina, it forms on our cars before they can even be sold off the lot new. And if deep rust is your passion there is a 30's Pontiac out back that's rusted down to about boot high. Come and get it!

Reasons to stay in California. Its not raining. You can have a marshmellow roast next door. You have the govenator.

Its bedtime, so I think I'll turn off the computer and engage in a far more enjoyable indoor activity, afterall, its raining outside...
