Got an idea that I like but looking for some opinions on it before I put it into play. I have a crew at work that has some interest in automotive stuff but probably not much more than oil change level ability. I have thought about having a garage night, maybe once a month during warm weather, If they wanted to do something minor - oil change, rotate the stones, etc - thought it would be cool. Most of them don't have much in the way of tools to do do any work. And I don't mind looking at something for them, offer advice, got 47+ years messing with this stuff - I might have a clue. What I don't want it getting to is someone thinking I'm a free mechanic service - and they sit back and watch me work. I have taught my own kids about cars, one of them races with me so I know how to show and teach someone the basics or more if they want to learn it. What do you think?
Sounds cool. But expect to work while guys sit back and watch..If they're grown men and never worked on a car other then oil changes, anything else might seem very hard.
You can always tell them what to do and not actually do it... Get that whole sense of accomplishment thing going
obviously you know your group better than I do BUT I tried to have a garage night with friends of mine that know (and own) cl***iic cars and I ended up doing 95% of the work. It eventually transformed into there daily driver cars, house repairs, listening to wife problems, emptying out your food and beverages, etc The only other thing I worry about is everyone saying I know this guy... he has a nice shop, talented, etc. and the next thing you know your shop is empty. I've known everybody in my group for 20+ years and it bit me anyway ! Just some things to consider.
I don't care to help anybody... but anymore I make it completely clear that by "help them" it means they do the work and I make sure they do it right... had a few ruin it for everybody in the past...
