I like bare metal, old paint and new paint; but if you happen to paint your garnish moldings and want them to stay nice, pick up some of the tiny stainless washers that go behind the trim screw. I got my washers years ago from Classic Chevy International when I had a '55 Chev, but the washers and screws seem to work on any era car. Google something like "garnish molding trim screw washers" and I think you will come up with a supplier. If you find one, let us know.

I'll post two pics - one of the chipped paint you get without using the washer behind the trim screw, and one showing the screw and washer. Once installed, the washer hardly shows - just a glint of light around the head of the screw.

By the way, when you pull a chromed trim screw from the wood jamb of a '30's car, the screw is normally fat with rust where it sat in the wood. I replaced mine with stainless trim screws.
