A hot rod, that's is awesome, but if I like all your posts at ones, will that crash the HAMB?
There are a good damn s*** load of cool right there. And a lot of them are "east coast" style! Awesome.

I like them a lot, or are you like @Rikster (with customs/kustoms), or @Jimmy B (dry lake era) the guy who keeps track of the significant ones?

Or are you just a picture hoarder like me, who love those type of rods?

Why don't more people build "east coast" styled cars, because they are plain awesome! The looks so nice with the deep channel, and unchopped.

Beaner ..... tough question to answer, the Roadster's and Bantam's I saw in the Midwest were all soft, even into the '70's.

    Thanks Brother!
I have been into the early era of Altered's since the mid-60's because they are what Hot Rod's started. In my opinion, a Hot Rod is a Altered, thus what we see.
I've never had the time over the years to keep track of any specific ones, as I traveled the USA and Canada for business for 30 years and never had the time.
The expression of creativity and simplicity over shadows any lack of skill or craftsmanship.

Did you know that many discovered that 'Driveshafts' were made from Chrome-Moly and thus they collected up driveshafts from the salvage yards, cut them up and gas welded them together and made round tube main rail chassis? It's true !

  23. Just one of those curiosity things for me. The old man always ran a soft cover on his into the early '60s. I remember talk about a hard cover because someone had seen one on the salt but he said it would make it too hard to get in and out of. The reason I remember is because I thought they were going to build a roof ( little kid)

    You are awesome!

Okay, race cars always got a piece of my heart, but dry lake era is awesome too, but the looks are very different.

The altered is much more pretty, and share a lot with the classy street driven rods, back then known a street rods.
But Dry lake era are more rough dogs and taken from were ever and raced as found, and if they where cut, often not painted. And often very "farmer cut and try".

But Altered looks mor finished and more equal to classy and very fast street rods. But also more engineered at least in every visual parts.

I like what you bring to the table!

  25. Dragsters of all varieties came in finished to bare bones. A lot had to due or has to do with the budget of the racer. A lot of Altereds were either gas roadsters or gas coupe/sedan class cars that just went too far. originally Gas class cars were street legal cars so finish would have been normal on them or at least finish to some degree.

By the '60s when people were starting to have money again things that would have been rough was getting smoothed out, chrome and magnesium. A lot of race cars double on the show car circuit. So naturally you would have seen some pretty nice cars at the track.

What needs to be taken from our History is that guys from all walks of life and income level were involved and participated in building and driving a Altered, or any Class-of-Car for that fact.
One needs to be aware that no matter how low-buck, or Hi-Buck a car was, it was created to compete, and they did, one-to-another, and many times to old car built on the farm or in a lean-to was a Winner because it was determination, hard work, trial and error and the will and drive to experiment that made them quicker and faster.
The time frame of '55-'62 truly reflects Altered Hot Rods.

But some of them got the drag and lake look.

But you started some thread here, and I like it a lot.

    Thanks to both of you!
