A buddy of mine forgot his gas cap at a gas station and has been struggling to find a replacement. He thought the filler neck may have come from some sort of truck, but isn't sure (the filler neck is in his '33 Ford coupe stock tank). None of the early Ford caps fit. Anybody recognize it based on the photos and drawing showing the dimensions? Thanks in advance.
Was it a shiny low-dome cap? If so, it was probably older, so maybe see if a cap from a fifties Ford, Chevy or Dodge truck works. I'd hope most parts places would have a cap for those. If they don't have them, maybe try 60's, then 70's?
He tried the 2 sizes of Ford caps...neither fit...but the dimensions on the "A" cap sure look like they should work. Thanks for the comments/suggestions so far.
The openings for the tabs are pretty narrow. The next question is, does it need to be vented? I'd see if you can find measurements for a very early 60s Dodge or Plymouth outer quarter panel cap, like a Valent/Lancer or pickup.
When I bought my T-bucket it had an oil fill cap from a small block Chevy valve cover as a gas cap. It didn't work very well. A friend of mine that worked at an auto parts store pulled a bunch of gas caps off the shelf and we tried them until we found one that worked. This might be an option for you too.
Gates has this type of cap in locking and non-locking. https://www.gates.com/us/en/other-products/caps-and-thermostats/fuel-caps.html I will look for dimensions.
This is what they have in 1-1/2" (although marked mm): https://www.gates.com/us/en/other-products/caps-and-thermostats/fuel-caps.html?fl-venting_string=Emission Control&fl-camtype_string=Shallow Cam&fl-neckdiameterin_string=1.5 mm There are three depths, and these are not vented Maybe this one: https://www.gates.com/us/en/other-p...l-caps.p.7410-000000-000009.v.7410-00230.html That one is vented. At $8.56 on Amazon, it's worth a shot.
