I've found gasoline to be one of the cheapest parts of hot rods.....just saying.

You guy's should be happy you can get it at the pump. There isn't a gas station within two hundred miles of where I am that has it!

Corn is the good shit, time to convert your fuel systems over and make more horsepower.

I've seen too many Gas Price threads devolve into divisive pointing and name calling.
It is a commodity we all use and have to buy at the current rate in our location.
If you are curious, there are a number of sites like this that keep track or you can try various phone apps.

I have a 300 gallon gravity feed tank at the house and I paid $3.39 for the last home delivery. I have a lot of small engines, an outboard and several old cars. Found out the hard way that non-ethanol won't work in many cars built after 2020. The price for non-ethanol makes one wonder why it cost more for removing a component

Ethanol has higher octane than gasoline, so you if you replace some of the gasoline with ethanol, then you don't have to refine the gasoline part of the blend as much, to end up with the same final octane.

Ethanol , you can get away with more
    Compression,
Hard on carbs & rubber Not Ethanol
    Resistant,
Eats / Corrode Non anodized/ Coated Aluminum.
    Your Engine burns more,
Ethanol absorbs water /moisture from the air.
    Will contaminate faster.
    Here starting around 2007 ,
Local & State started adding other Tax's
    Fee's , Average $1.00 - 1.50 .on top of Federal Tax .
Here Ethanol free is $0.40 ish over
    91 ,93 oct.
Not available on the pump what they consider N Va county's, with emissions.
    As of June 30 ,25
    87 was $3.18

My daily driver deuce pickup has a 56 Chevy 265 so no problem. My Grasshopper dealer recommended non alcohol gas, it's a 2022.

Bullshit! The alcohol still has to be distilled not to mention the corn has to be planted, grown, harvested and hauled. Plus the sugar and water and air pollution for those processes. Friends that were chemists for 2 oil refineries told me that. Gasohol is just for the farmers to make them happy and politicians to look good.

  19. Mine runs corn fuel

    if you drive it
    It generally doesn’t cause issues

$5.40 a gallon LOL. I wish! My hot rod drag cars drink Sunoco 112 octane at $9.00 a gallon, and that's if I buy it in 55 gallon barrels. I can remember when nitromethane cost $9 a gallon.

This ^^^^^^. It's the sitting that does the damage particularly a long winters hibernation. I had to rebuild the carb on my pressure washer after the first winter, venturis were all clogged up in the little honda carb. Stable would have helped or prevented that but I didn't think about it. I just use clear in it now. I run clear in all my cars but if I am out playing and need gas, I will use whatever premium I can find, as long as it all burned up before winter.

What does any of that have to do with the octane of ethanol, or the cost of refining gasoline?

  23. I run gas
    I use oil
And I recommend radiators and a fan on liquid cooled engines

Ive been running ethanol laced gas in these flathead Fords for eons and never hurt one and as long as I can get the rebuild kits for the carbs and fuel pumps I don’t see me stopping. If I remember right Henry built these rascals to burn damn near anything you could shove into the tank. True that was for the T models and so forth but I disregard where that would be any different for the flatheads.

We don't have non-corn gas in this corner of Illinois. The corn gas was 3.39/gal before the expected July 1 increase, I didn't check the prices today.

All my stuff runs on the corn gas. My coupe has been known to sit several months without use (3rd vehicle), and it always sits outside during the winters. I have not had a fuel related problem with it yet, and its been parked from Nov 1 through April 1 every year since 2011. It doesn't have a carb though. My mower sits all winter, and my snow blower sits all summer, both are 5 years old now. The corn gas seems to work OK in both of them, but then I do shut the gas valve off and run the motor out of gas before they get parked over their off season. I also generally try to run the gas tank down to about 1/2 empty. The corn gas stays in the tank and gets used the next season along with fresh corn gas.

I think maybe the corn gas gets blamed for a lot more issues then it really causes. Kind of like the carb issues and ignition issues over the years.

Gene I think you’re right about corn gas getting blamed for a lot things that aren’t caused by the ethanol.
    Facts:
1.Ethanol has a higher octane rating maybe 105.
    2. Ethanol has less energy per lb or gallon.
    3. Ethanol attacks some rubbers, and uncoated aluminum.
    4. Ethanol has an affinity for H2O
    5. Ethanol can be corrosive especially if it has absorbed water.
So ethanol for any given octane rating will likely produce less power (can be tuned to get same power) and get lower fuel economy maybe 5%. Ethanol raises octane rating allowing more compression timing etc. and is generally cheaper than a non ethanol gasoline equivalent.
I don’t run ethanol in my older cars because the fuel pumps, carbs etc are attacked by ethanol. Newer stuff gets ethanol. You can buy fuel system components that are ethanol compatible.
Around my neck of the woods there are guys making crazy power running E85.

The problem with old cars and small engines in general is that they don't have sealed fuel systems like modern cars. So as temperatures go up and down, especially in damp winters, moist air goes in and out of the tanks, allowing moisture to get absorbed by the fuel.

    E 85 , another issues here ,
I am in one of those N Va counties that's considered emissions county .
With out setting & counting all Gas stations I would say easy 150 plus ,
Only 1 that I know of that has E85 & its on border of Non emission County.
Most of my vehicles have 12-14 gallon tanks , on 87 , &93,94 oct 10ish mpg.
On E85 would be 5 ish mpg .
I am like most here that grew up with
    Gas station that where Fullservice
Gas , Oil , Air ,Wiper blades , tire's ,belts
    Bubs ,,,They No longer exist!
The One's that have No issues with
    Ethanol consider yourself lucky.
No matter how much Fuel stabilizer you use it will eventually catch up with you the Ethanol Fuel , Even bad delivery of fuel off the pump .
Most Big box stores Do Not carrie
Good Quality ethanol resistance fuel line, that's why there's a difference between $6.00 a foot, gas Fires compared to $20 a foot , same with carb kits ,Accelerator pumps gaskets etc.

These old engines were engineered to run with lead. It is impossible to purchase leaded fuel.
