I live 30 miles due south of Cinti ., Oh. There are 2 fuel terminals in the area . No Matter what the station sign says you getting the same gas as the other brand on the opposite corner . I worked with a few guys that came to work with us when a Gulf Refinery closed down near by . There are only 2 grades premium and regular . The refinery sold to many dealers , no matter what name was on the tanker . Every old gas engine I own runs well one 10% corn not one issue . The old Smokey diesel will run on used motor oil in the summer . I don’t build anything to need special fuel anymore , I want to enjoy driving them not worrying about if I’m using correct fuel that costs double what I’m using . That equates to me as being able to drive 1/2 the mileage as I do for the cost of corn gas . Just my rant , use what you think is best . I’m with Mr Anthony , Walmart burns damn will in my junk !
The highest rated fuel (at the pump) in NZ 95 octane (98 ron) and is not cheap, non of it is. 95 octane here is around $11.50 (or more) per US gallon. JW
Yes and no... Alcohol does bother rubber parts unless they've been upgraded. I think the water gets absorbed in the fuel (because of the alcohol) and is what rots the aluminum in the carb and plugs up the passage-ways, if allowed to be stored with fuel in it. We call it "white death"... I think the moisture gets burned off while running, and it doesn't bother. I know an Edelbrock usually heat soaks after coming in hot and the bowl is almost empty after a few days. More than a week or two, and it's dry. No problem... In the race car on methanol, the carbs are anodized and it don't bother the metal parts, but over the winter, we always store it dry and spray it with kerosene or WD-40...
We in Washington State (the one that every time Cali raises taxes says hold my beer and watch this, are paying right at 65 cents a gallon state tax on gas as of the 1st of July. Still it is where you buy gas here because the price varies almost a dollar low to high not counting out of the way resorts. Hopefully the 292 going in my 48 has hard valve seats.
I cross the blue bridge from Lewiston Idaho to Clarkston Warshington to get Oil and crap at walmart cause we dont have walmart..... Yep I noticed you Wash. guys gas is a buck $1 a gallon more expensive than Idaho. I have to bring my own free Idaho plastic grocery bags too , cause Wash. doesnt give you free grocery bags when you buy groceries
In my experience stale gas attacks steel, brass and (pot metal) in fuel systems, but not aluminum, surprisingly.
Robert, Can you actually pump that leaded 110 octane race gas into a cars fuel tank, or must it be pumped into a container? If the former, I may be moving to Kansas. CKH
I learn a lot where ever I can. When first this showed up,,, I thought "Oh No not going this trip again" But doing chores today ain't my thing so I'm in. First thing that I have learned is that the Harley-Davidson dealers here, sell an additive to deal with the problem of having gas sitting weeks at a time. "Liquid Performance ETHANOL EQUALIZER" When used properly, It is not very costly. It will keep that dormant supply of E-gas from going bad with H2O. I just found that Uncle Jeff, Amazon sells ( in any quantity volume ) it also. Beginning with @gene-koning and others I can attest to the proprietors of any outlet can be culpable of corruptive contamination of the product. The only regulation I have seen is by Weights and Measures certification. My personal feeling is,,, if you're gonna drive it regularly. Keep the travels regular, Like squirrel or @anthony myrick, Just do it. If that special ride is for special days,,, then cautious protection is necessary.
Everything I own drinks E10. Haven't had any real issues. My 68 Camaro doesnt get driven much, maybe 100 miles a year. I usually dont keep the tank full because I dont want fuel sitting in it and getting old. Back in 2022 my dad took it out for a ride on July 4. He was feeling nice so he filled the tank up. Only last week did I put a splash of gas in it. I've driven that car for three years on that tank of gas. No issues, and it might have even run better as time went on. At first I wasn't thrilled to have E10 sitting in the tank for a long time, but it seems to have worked out fine.
It takes energy to make fuel . They use petroleum to cook the corn to break it down to turn it into fuel . So why is it cheaper than pure gasoline? Don’t talk bad about Farmers with your mouth full Farmers don’t set the price for the products they sell . The prices are set by the board of trade . A bunch of suits that never physically touch any grain or livestock. Just computer keyboards. Farmers have no control over the cost of fertilizer, chemicals they use , the price of fuel , the cost of repairs or the cost of machinery. But if a labor union goes on strike and gets a pay raise the farmer just has to figure out a way to absorb it . Farming is a way of life . The best crops I have raised is my 4 Daughters. The value of hard work, sticking with a job until it’s done and doing the best you can has helped them with their jobs .
