I'm sure someone must have had this problem in the past.

I have NOT checked it out yet. First thing I will check is the proper ground.

    THE PROBLEM:

THE GAS GAGE READS APPOX. 1/3 FULL WHEN CRUISING.......ONCE THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES, THE GAGE MOVES ALL THE WAY TO EMPTY. ONCE I LET OFF THE PEDAL, IT GOES BACK UP TO 1/3 FULL.

    Any suggestions highly appreciated.................

    Thank you in advance,
    Mike

The gas is sloshing back and forth raising and lowering the gauge sender float. Solution, don't look at it while accelerating braking or going up and down hills. Check it while cruising on the flat.

Sounds like you have incorrect sending unit orientation. If the float arm is positioned front to rear it is very susceptible to changes in fuel level. It is far better to have the arm going from left to right where the g forces of braking and acceleration will have much less affect. Also make sure the tank has baffles to help prevent fuel sloshing around.

No baffles in the tank. Sender mounted with swing front to back. needs to be from side to side.
